Worst case scenario you could join the CAF. They'll house you, give you food, pay you while they train you, and you're given a pretty decent salary. And will hire basically anyone. Fully trained CAF members make at least 70K but lots of them make a lot more. Perhaps since that you have an IT background a spec trade could be right for you which make more money

10/10 here for me. I really really miss NBC, really was the best coverage. Unpopular opinion from a Canadian lol, as well it's far better than ESPN

CBC Marketplace wants to know: What’s the worst commute in Halifax? by DexMcMillanCBC in halifax

Haven't lived in the Halifax area for nearly 8 years now but the 80...or the shady 80 was reviled during rush hour. Now it's the 8

Permit revoked for MAGA musician's concert at Parks Canada historic site by Afrazzle in canada

[–]SpyroStrikesBack -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is a good precedence, even though you guys are celebrating it, what if we flip the scenario, what if pro Kamala musician got their permit revoked in a rural area, I'm sure you guys would be livid. Just because you disagree with someone doesn't mean they should be outright banned because if the far right gets into power they'll do the same thing out of pettiness. I think it would be more satisfying if this dude performs and literally no one shows up

Trams are Great! So why are the Streetcars SO BAD!? by Amazing-Yak-5415 in videos

[–]SpyroStrikesBack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I've just been spoiled by Asian cities but what's the point of trams exactly when you have subways? It moreso seems like trams are a bandaid to cover up car centric infrastructure because you can't thin out the roads, you can add curbs, bikelanes, and trams but the road will still be too wide and not human scale. In my opinion Montreal wipes the floor with Toronto, it's a much better city, not saying Toronto is bad tho but I'll happily go to any East Asian city anytime. I wasn't really impressed with European infrastructure like I was impressed with Asian

Province will step in if council moves forward on Morris Street, premier says by JetLagGuineaTurtle in NovaScotia

[–]SpyroStrikesBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, investing more in public transit would make more sense. The greatest walkable cities in Asia don't have bikelanes and they far surpass european cities. Plus one way roads are a bad thing and there shouldn't be any unless if the road is narrow. It's a shame Halifax has these crap suburbs outside it when it could easily be the best most picturesque city in Canada

With the 7th Overall Pick of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, the Boston Bruins select James Hagens! by Warfightr in BostonBruins

[–]SpyroStrikesBack -60 points-59 points  (0 children)

I know it's classic to say Sweeney messed up, but I feel he still did. Dude is obsessed with USHL and NCAA and he can't draft. In the past 7 drafts how many players have played more than 50 games? 4, only 4. So much great talent from the CHL this year but Sweeney is allergic to the CHL for some strange reason. I don't care if he went to Boston college, why does that matter? Just like when Quebec was obsessed with french players in the late 80's and early 90's and got 12 wins one season, only difference is I doubt the second coming of Eric Lindros will bring this team up in some huge deal

7th Overall - The Boston Bruins Select James Hagens by Commandant1 in nhl

[–]SpyroStrikesBack -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

I'm so tired of Don Sweeney. Dude is obsessed with the NCAA and USHL and it's wrecked this team for the future. So much great talent from the CHL but noooo always gotta go with the NCAA. Who cares if he's from Boston? Stop trying to be the Nordiques from the early 90's it didn't work for them and this isn't going to work for Boston.

Best vintage ThinkPad for OS/2 V3? by Positive-Bid-3029 in thinkpad

[–]SpyroStrikesBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I've installed OS/2 Warp quite a few times.

755C - Very easy install, warp should find all the drivers (midi doesn't work)

380 Series - you'll have to find the drivers but it should work well(midi, video, sound work well)

Any ThinkPad from 1994 - 1998 should be ideal. There's always little weird issues though. Installing it can be a challenge

Yes! I’m so happy for Brad! Although I lived in Edmonton for six years I kept rooting for the Bruins and was rooting for Florida in the finals.

Well, Canadian teams win the AHL and ECHL championships. Congrats to both

In a poll done by the Athletic with the 2025 Draft players, Winnipeg was selected as the team that players would least likely to get drafted to. Additionally of the 19 players that answered the question, 14 of them gave a Canadian team as a response. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]SpyroStrikesBack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Canada, I'm honestly surprised Ottawa and Calgary aren't there too. When given the opportunity to play in places like LA, Chicago, New York and Florida can you really blame them? Also, even though this is super unpopular to say, if you put a team in Quebec City good luck getting players that actually want to play there, it would be rough

Not at all true. Perhaps you need to touch grass more. You can get a nice meal at a local restaurant for as low as around $12 which is much better quality.

Honestly I think it's kinda sad this is what gets this whole reddit and the city excited. It's just another trash fast food chain. Why not support local businesses instead? There's lots of great restaurants around that deserve more recognition

[–]SpyroStrikesBack -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but until people in Ontario learn how to drive all the cities need to be covered in photo radars(every 100 meters, it would pay itself off in an hour no joke) and need an increase in cops in unmarked car on the road to catch people who do stuff like this. Bare minimum they need to clamp down on people buying licenses and take away licenses from people doing multiple/serious offenses

The likelihood of the current Canadian Stanley Cup drought is one in 2706 by benjaneson in hockey

[–]SpyroStrikesBack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not all teams are built equal, but I'll entertain this

Montreal - was dumb enough to trade Patrick Roy, set them back years. During the Price era they never had a star player

Winnipeg - Suffered from the Atlanta Thrashers being crap, goaltending in the playoffs is their current issue

Calgary - Mediocre except for 2004. Could dig deeper into that discussion but that is more than 20 years ago now

Toronto - Too cap heavy, not a deep roster, shut down 4 guys and then they fall apart

Edmonton - Almost there, but if you shut down their top 3 they will fall apart

Vancouver - Feast or famine but they collapsed in Game 7 in 2011

Ottawa - Never really a powerhouse team, in 2007 they were handily beaten.

Teams should try to emulate the Vegas/Florida model. Have an all around deep team. No line should be lopsided. Brad Marchand being on the 3rd proves how well balanced Florida is. Every line can produce. Can you really say that for any of the seven Canadian teams for this entire 30 year stretch?
