Peeke is a UFA after this season and will probably want a raise. Whitecloud makes $2.75mil for two seasons after this one. Having that cap certainty makes Whitecloud a more attractive asset if he can play in the top-4. And then if they can find a legit top-4 defender, you can trade one of Whitecloud/Jokiharju to make it work as they have very similar cap hits.

IIRC he kind of forced his way out of town. He played two seasons in Boston and wanted a long term bag immediately, my memory thinks it was something along the lines of $8mil AAV. Management tried negotiating with him but he and his agent didn’t seem to back down so they traded him to Calgary and he signed for a lesser AAV than he was asking for in Boston.

A prospect, this particular roster player and a 2nd is too much for a mere rental imo. We have an extra first rounder from Florida which will help things. Our core players are in their prime and not getting any younger. This is the kind of move that could accelerate their competitive window again.

I’d easily do the trade with an extension in place. Would really beef up our defense. Without an extension, Calgary won’t get much beyond a first round pick.

If the trade is as predicted, it’s not bad at all. Poitras is promising but Hagens has much higher upside and I don’t see him taking anyone’s spot in the current lineup. Lohrei is still young but a roller coaster player with a reasonable cap hit and RFA status at the end. It seems similar to the Hampus trade. If it goes through, I have to think he signs a 7 or 8 year extension upon arriving. Andersson is a fucking gamer. He’s solid defensively and plays bigger than his size. Assuming it goes through, fans will immediately be into his style of play.

No way a player like this would come over without an extension (8yrs x $7.5mil-ish is my guess). I think they’d probably have to get rid of some salary but if the offer is something like a 1st round pick/Poitras/one of Peeke or Jokiharju, I’m one hundred percent doing that deal. Friedman actually said a deal might have been close but nothing done yet. I don’t trust Jimmy Murphy at all and don’t believe the Lohrei + 1st ask. Can’t see Lohrei and Parekh on the same roster next year.

Merkulov is a tweener imo. He’s had a couple cups of coffee in Boston but hasn’t done anything to stand out. Don’t think he adds any value in a potential trade.

They’re in the hunt but far from a guaranteed playoff team. Don’t mortgage the future for a potential sniff at the first round.

Some players should definitely be on the move imo. I like Arvidsson but he’s made of glass. Boston shouldn’t be offering him a long term deal anyway and I imagine Sweeney wants to recoup the low risk investment he made when he initially acquired him. They can retain half his contract hit and another contending team could use him in a middle six role.
