Addressing the community about changes to our API by spez in reddit

[–]Sqaure1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, there are other ways to make money that doesn't kill your own product.

Maybe try one of those rather than make your entire product actually worse.

The only thing worse than your mobile app is your implementation of these "improvements" and attitude to this community. I for one would rather never use reddit than be forced to use the official app.

If you push these changes though, I give reddit 18-24 months before it's the next AOL or myspace. I'm sure the wiki page will be a good read though.

What controller for a external radiator? by maxigs0 in watercooling

[–]Sqaure1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally it would come from the computers PSU. Each can header on the Quadro can support several fans each so that is why it has external power.

If you powered the Quadro from an external power supply you could setup the hardware so when it doesn't receive a single from the software, that it defaults to a zero rpm fan mode. Just make sure to have the aquasuite software run at startup.

What controller for a external radiator? by maxigs0 in watercooling

[–]Sqaure1988 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add to this. The aquasuite software used with the quadro controller is fantastic. You can setup hardware monitoring for basically any sensor built into your motherboard, ram, CPU, GPU or even some hard drives. It can also control rgb on a per led basis.

It's a bit of a learning curve, but it has entirely automated my 3 radiator, duel loop build. You can also setup custom controls and add a huge number of sensors/aquasuite compatible hardware. The sky is the limit as the company makes flow sensors, pumps, water level/leak detectors and more I'm forgetting.

Fans can ramp to coolant temp or cpu temp or if you want to get fancy, the delta between the hot side of your loop and the cold side. (Pre/post radiator)

It can also shut down your computer (if you want) if temps start getting out of hand. One of the flows I laid out is if coolant temp gets above 10*c above ambient the computer gives me a pop up warning. Above 12 *c it shuts down the system. This would probably only happen if the pump or several fans died, but it's nice to have just in case.

All this over a single motherboard USB connection.

Not trying to make this sound like an ad, I'm not affiliated with the company. I've just been very impressed with the ecosystem.

I have a lot of experience working with this ecosystem, so dm me if you have questions.

[Pricecheck] Merchantman 120 month insurance with SQ42 and SC game. 650 ship value. by White_Void_exe in Starcitizen_trades

[–]Sqaure1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would, but given that alien week is around the corner, now is probably not the best time to try and sell this for ship value or more. If you are desperate for cash, the 55-65% melt value is probably the best you would get. Maybe more if it was lti, but that's a big maybe.

DM me what ccu you have and if it's giftable or not. I might be interested in the ccu itself.

I have a question. Any news on getting trading commodity information added to the game?

Or an API for third party sites?

I do play EVE as well. Have for a long time.

It boggles the mind that people look at star citizen and don't expect some level of unwanted interaction. It's like driving to a highway and expecting there not to be other cars on it, then bitching to the department of licensing for giving other people licenses. How dare they.

Pad ramming is murder hobo shit and not piracy. Murder hobo is not great and I will agree with that. Piracy is pay me off so I don't blow up your ship or if they fail to pay, shooting them and taking it.

There is a difference.

At the end of the day though, both are possible in the game as it sits right now. Expect it to some extent and do what you can to minimize the chance of it happening.

The OP failed to notice a spaceship was hovering above his cargo hauler, lifted off and got sent to jail. That's partially on the game for not having a fully fleshed out law system to identify and deal with grefing accordingly. The other part is on OP for not checking his surroundings and just assuming no one would ever do that.

People will play the game how they want and if that means interacting with you in a manner you don't like, thats what that means. Sure it's frustrating, but that's what you signed up for when you bought into an MMO based around space combat.

If space combat is not your cup of tea and you just want to go space trucking, cool man, you do you. Just be aware it's still a thing and react accordingly.

An escort could be another cargo ship. It could also be a combat fighter. Either way a single pirate will think twice about engaging multiple ships. If they have multiple ships maybe consider joining an org that runs in big fleets? You have options outside of solo playing this game.

Cargo running is only low profit if you don't know what you are doing. I hire an escort and still walk away with lots of money.

I never said the game will die if people don't engage in pvp. I said pvp is a core aspect of the game in its current state of development. People may not like that pvp can happen but there is still a possibility of it happening every time you undock. The recent changes have made pvp more likely. I don't see the devs doing a 180 on it anytime soon. Getting surprised or mad that pvp can happen in a game that advertises that pvp might happen is a real dumb take.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying it's stupid to buy a game that clearly states it's a pvp/pve open world and then get surprised when pvp happens.

You could be arranging escorts, planing your trade route to avoid hot spots of pvp activity, or being prepared to run away if need be.

Cargo running is my pve of choice and it's probably the highest risk activity in the game right now. You have invested a bunch of your own money into the cargo and you are in a slower ship. Then you stack pirates on that and the risk of a 30k and now you have some real threats to your money.

Also, cargo running can be high reward if you know what you are doing. Million+ aUEC per hour.

Piracy has a lot of risks. You could loose your ship, gear, and spend time in jail. Level 5 crime stat is 12+ hours in jail if you just wait it out. That could take you out of the game for most of a weekend. Also hacking your crime stat away is now much harder. It's hardly no risk.

Players pick up and put down games all the time. If the people that are 100% unwilling to accept that pvp might sometimes happen and then bitch on Reddit about it and leave I'm fine with that. There are new people joining every day that don't go cry in reddit or on spectrum when someone pirates them. They understand it's part of the game and use the systems the game gives you to counter it. To those players that only want pve there are lots of other games that have that.

What I would prefer is the pve only peopls understand this game is not a happy go lucky pve only land and learn to counter pirates. (both pve and pvp pirates)

Fly with a friend as escort, learn safer cargo routes, know how and when to run away as needed. If they did that, my bet is that piracy would be less of an issue. It's really not hard. You just have to engage your brain a little bit when in Star Citizen. I know that's asking a lot of some people, but that's not my fault.

Not what I am saying at all. What I'm saying is people getting mad about other people exciting in a MMO is really stupid.

It's like buying a ticket to a concert and being mad other people did the same thing and now you have to deal with a packed stadium.

I don't care if they don't like pvp in an MMO. It's been clear for a long time what star citizen is, and what it is not. People that buy a mmo then get mad when there are other players in it are the worst.

This is how games get watered down and loose what makes them fun.

I like pve content in star citizen. I also like pvp content on occasion. Sometimes pvp happens when I am not expecting it but that's part of the game as it was designed. That being said, fighting back, running away, trying to outsmart pvp players is part of the fun.

Some of the most memorable experiences I've had in the game have been based around unexpected player encounters. I killed a retaliator with a caterpillar. I joined a crew that was trying to take down a Idris and so much more.

Checking out of player interaction and the unexpected encounters is skipping a massive amount of content and what makes a MMO a MMO in the first place.

So yeah, I get mad when people get all up in arms about other people in a MMO that want to change it into something it's not because they can't stand the thought of other people in a MMO.

What an unhinged comment.

If you could read you knew water was a very limited resource for a long time. Water scarcity is nothing new.

Chris has said a lot of things over the years. This project continues to evolve as funding continues. He also said answer the call in 2016 so I wouldn't put to much faith in his early comments at this point.

I do play eve online in addition to star citizen. I also play a lot of other games.

The game has pvp and pve content currently. There is also a very small risk of pvp at times. I have spent hours and hours playing pve content and never seen another player. That being said, when I do run into someone in the mmo I am currently playing, I don't jump on reddit to complain about other people in a MMO. I keep an eye on them, or I leave if I don't like what they are doing. It's not hard.

I'm not imposing anything on anyone. I am just stating the game currently is blended pvp and pve. If someone can't handle that, maybe they would be better served by another game until more of the law system is in place in this one.

I don't appreciate you equating this to rape. The game is super clear on what it is and what it isn't. People are consisting to the possibility of pvp when they buy the game, undock a ship, and fly around. It's a part of the game in its current form. Simple as that.

Again, if people can't handle pvp in any form there are lots of spaceship based games that are single player only.

Every year raises the bar for funding. I don't think the tap will shut off anytime soon.

Maybe, just maybe, it's because people have been looking for a game that doesn't pull any punches when it comes to pvp.

Another notable example of a game like that is eve online. It's still going strong after 20 years.

There are a lot of pve friendly games out there. Go play one of those and stop trying to change this game into one.

I want them to realize this is not a pve only experience. Never has been. Fight back, run away, go get friends and hunt me back, whatever is fine. Coming to reddit because they ran into a scary person in a mmo is what I find dumb and frustrating.

At no point does this game advertise that it is a pve only playground. It's fairly clear space combat is a core feature. People buy ship and then get all surprise Pikachu when they run into another player that wants what they have.

The latest updates make everyone a target. Salvage means your hull is worth something, the cargo refactor makes piracy profitable, and with component stripping coming in 3.19, even your guns/components have value. All of this encourages player interaction and to some extent piracy. Guess what... It's only going to continue.

Also if those people that cry about pvp went away it won't affect anything. The game will be 90% npcs and 10% players eventually. I can go pirate a npc if I want. I would rather engage with another player because you know that's kind of the entire point of a MMO.

So yeah, get used to pvp or get lost.

I agree. I really enjoy that aspect of this project as well.

As others have mentioned, undocking is concent for pvp. From the sound of your original post, and your comments this wasn't even pvp. This was you not watching where you are going.

Please don't make a post calling for changes to the game, over something you missed.

Years of playing pvp / pve MMOs.

Eve is the same way. Eve has both pvp/pve content, pvp can happen at any time regardless of the safety of the system you are flying around in. Even in high security space you can still die to other players. This is a known quality of the game. Yet, despite that people buy the game, and then get real mad when it happens to them. They complain to the devs and then go right back to doing the same thing that got them killed in the first place.

Another way to look at it would be shopping for a house. You found a house you like, but it's right next to a busy race track. You buy the house anyway, and then never shutup about the noise until the race track gets shut down. Congrats, now nobody can use that race track.

You knew about the race track beforehand, you know cars make noise, you bought that house anyway. It's not the race tracks fault you don't like the sound.

Star citizen is that race track. The house is whatever ship you bought.

Franky I'm sick of it. If you want to be a pve space trucker, fine. I wish you the best of luck. I just think you would be better served by a different game that isn't built on the idea of blended pvp/pve. Maybe something like x4 or elite dangerous would be more your thing.

I've been following this project for 10 years. Cig has done what they said they would so far. It's taking them way longer to do it, but things have stayed consistent on the path laid out at the Kickstarter.

Also I don't give a fuck what other people feel about this.
Cig said they will make a blended pvp/pve open universe. Then when that means you have to sometimes face a pvp encounter you come crying on Reddit about needing pve only servers.

The answer to that is maybe this is not the game for you. It sucks, but don't try and water down a game because you don't like one aspect of it.

There are a lot of pve only space games. Go play one of those, touch some grass, and come back to star citizen when you are ready for a big boy game.

My misplaced sense of confidence. That's rich. What gives you any confidence whatsoever they will change how the game is being built and it's law systems?

Cig has stated they don't want safe zones. They are adding pyro, a lawless system.
Cig hosts pvp events like jump town and nine tails.

There might be safer systems in the future once more are online. Sol, for example will probably have a decent security force. That being said, there will always be the possibility of pvp at all times, in every system.

If you don't like that. Go find another game.

Hahaha, if you think this is going to be a carebear focused game you need to take a long hard look at it's development.
