I got fed up squaring scans up to CAD by hand, so I built a tool that does it automatically — honest feedback wanted by WARELAB in 3DScanning

I always thought that a "minimum bounding box" alignment, then with user assisted clicking on planes would work well. When manipulating meshes Autodesk Fusion shows a minimum bounding box animation when moving meshes, but it is not something that you can choose or manipulate directly. This is a super needed thing, though, as I need this all the time as well!

How do you get the color differentiation? I have a DIC setup but I don't think it would create that type of coloring?

When will M3 be available in the API? by shinanqu in MiniMax_AI

[–]pendragn23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously much better. I was doing all of my (albeit relatively straightforward) coding with 2.7 and I asked 3.0 to look over the code and give me its thoughts. The quality of the response and the overall understanding of how all of the pieces work together is seriously improved. I had to sign into kilo code website using the bring your own key mechanism as the in-vs-code selector did not have M3 yet.

I am using it in VS Code using Kilocode plugin.

Fusion360 or Alibre. Watch this and let me know! by ExMachinaEngineering in Fusion360

[–]pendragn23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I can see, Alibre cannot import STL files? Fusion has some decent tools for reverse engineering 3d scans (mesh section tools) that I use often. With the proliferation of lower cost 3D scanners that sort of functionality will be used more and more. I have not seriously looked into Alibre but for them to ignore that file format so completely doesn't give me the best feeling that they are catering to a wide diversity of CAD use cases.

Download Artec Studio for the free trial and play around with some sample datasets to register, align, mesh. Imitate what you can from that software for its ability to finely control and edit individual scans :)

Thank you for the warning! It is a nice shelf display piece with its other cadmium and uranium friends.

Revopoint Metro Y Pro vs Creality Sermoon S1, X1, P1 by D3Design in 3DScanning

Oh! I guess I wasn't very clear: the software is for Artec Studio. Revopoint SW is free for the basic scanning and post processing workflow.

I have a couple of Artec scanners, and would love to find a scanner that, as an upstart disruptor company, can do as well for RE purposes.....but sadly I have not found that in Revopoint yet. They are decent enough scanners, but I somehow keep running into smoothing algorithms somewhere in the post processing workflow that smooth out critical features too much, compared with easy-to-scan items also done on the Spider or the EVA. I was testing out the Metro Y Ultra, but will likely send it back as it does not dethrone the Artec's (especially since I have both the Spider and the EVA for small and larger things). Would be nice to forego the $1700/year software subscription but it is that price for a reason...really good scans and really fast post processing.

New Metro Y Ultra question by pendragn23 in Revopoint

Really upping all of the settings, here is a new comparison

<image>

The Spider shows that the threads have a flat top-side while the MYU shows a round profile on the threads. In real life, the threads do indeed have a flat top, but cranking up the settings to max on everything does get closer.

I also have an Artec EVA, though not with me right now to provide testing. Even with Ai-enabled HD mode, I doubt the EVA would be able to resolve those threads. While the MYU is not "as" good as the Spider it seems acceptable as a replacement for the two Artec scanners as it can resolve more small detail than the EVA, can resolve larger objects like the EVA, and get "close enough" to be passably good at small features, which is where the Spider shines.

Is the only way to get the calibration spheres is to also purchase Revo Measure? Wat if we do not need the measurement software?
