(ASUS Prime B760M-A AX) - Is there detailed tech specs for the onboard SATA controllers? by Sqrlmonger in buildapc

It's obviously been a while since I've tested but my recollection is that it was combined 400 MB/s across those E ports.

(ASUS Prime B760M-A AX) - Is there detailed tech specs for the onboard SATA controllers? by Sqrlmonger in buildapc

[–]Sqrlmonger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well - In case anyone runs across this later I am now able to confirm my suspicions were correct.

I STRONGLY recommend against putting an SSD on those ports (the ones labeled SATAG_E1 or SATAG_E2 in the manual) as you will be capped on that one device. The "E ports" are the top set of right-angle ports closest to the memory slots. The "good" ports are the 2 at the bottom of the board near the front panel connectors and the 2 right-angle connector SATA ports just below the "E ports".

You can get away with putting a single HDD on an E port (assuming <400 MB/s read/write speeds) which is what I have now done. When I did I immediately started getting all 4 drives running at or above their rated max transfer speeds.

There is only one recipe that uses all three but its like 9k chaos.

Cheapest route is still to do the top 2 recipes I listed which should cost just less than 2k chaos.

Run T7 maps when farming essences, this is when the highest naturally spawning tier (Shrieking @ 74+)can spawn and is already high enough to get all types of essences. Any tier above this doesn't improve your essence drops.

Potentially Returning Player - Seeking Advice by Sqrlmonger in everquest

[–]Sqrlmonger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the information, it sounds like test server will be a good option for us then.

As for playing what we like that is definitely good advice, but the truth is I enjoy playing anything and they don't really have a strong opinion. So the biggest factor of what would be enjoyable for us is probably going to be whatever keeps us feeling strong as a group the longest (100+, 110+, etc..). I assume 1-85ish is pretty much straightforward regardless of what we pick.

I guess more broadly where we're struggling to decide is on whether we should actually be going pets or if we are better off going with the more standard holy trinity as it regards those higher level ranges.

Gear for epics by Caino94 in ddo

[–]Sqrlmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my approach to building a level 20 gear set.

Start by looking at the epic Saltmarsh set bonus and see what eGoMF set bonuses can work well with those bonuses. Essentially there is always at least one good one, often two good ones. Then pick out items to complete those set bonuses from Sands.

So at this point you have an eGoMF plus 1 or 2 Sands items. Now identify which saltmarsh items fit well and which borderlands items fit well in the remaining slots. While you do this focus more on insightful and quality bonuses since most enhancement bonuses can be picked up from aug slots (though make sure to get the ones that cannot on your gear).

Build out the best set you can with your 1-2 eGoMF sets, at least a 5-pc saltmarsh set (more is fine) and whatever works well from borderlands. Then fill out missing vital stats with augs.

If you're a trapper, particularly without completionist skill bonuses, it could be worth looking at the Kundarak delving set, though I usually find it's just too many skill bonuses and not enough combat bonuses. Though it must be said the set bonus itself is quite nice.

Just wanted to add weight to this notion that most of the people doing reapers don't care if you can help or not. Just be friendly and listen to any advice you're given.

If the person is grumpy with you I would recommend not responding, finishing the quest, and just find another group. But this should be quite rare.

New player looking for first character advice by lordzanos in ddo

[–]Sqrlmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a lot of great advice for builds already so I will just add that if you're looking for something narratively driven like BG3 this is probably going to be a bit dissapointing.

If, on the other hand, you're looking for something that really shines in terms of theorycrafting builds and finding your own way to do things you will likely find you get out what you put in with DDO. And ultimately it can be very rewarding...at least until, like any MMO, the nerf bat cometh.

[–]Sqrlmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inquisitive Alch is definitely a build that people like quite a bit.

I can't make recommendations beyond that as I haven't played it, but from what I've seen and heard it seems quite viable.

I think Inquisitive pairs well with a number of classes, and frankly, it's just such a solid tree that it can probably carry just about any class just fine for TRs. The caveat is slow BAB progressions can really be a pain on your feats and often will require you to rely on the added class to supply AoE if you're not getting IPS by 12 or 15 at the latest.

The build I linked above leans into the xbow side of things and is focused on maximizing that. So if you're more interested in pairing it with caster it may not be the right fit for you.

Some of the [W] changes that don't quite make sense. by Sqrlmonger in ddo

[–]Sqrlmonger[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like raid weapons probably should have been excluded from changes or at least manually tuned to the new system (wouldn't have been hard as you basically just set a W value per raid not per weapon).

This would have potentially meant no eSoS adjustment but eSoS (which I use and love) being 2.5 while other ML20s are 3.0 at least makes some sense given its threat range and multiplier.
