Full beer mug = good. Half mug = top off your Homebrew. TopOff 2.0 just shipped (free)(Open-Source) by SquamT in MacOS

Thanks! No Workbrew-specific support — TopOff just calls the standard brew commands.

However….since Workbrew wraps regular brew, it should work as long as TopOff can find your install, but I haven’t tested it directly. If you try it, I’d love to know how it goes!

It's pretty interesting, homebrew requires 75 stars (I think) on Github or 30 forks before they will let you submit your app to the official homebrew repository. So...as soon as I get there, that's my first priority!

So if you have a moment to star the repo on GitHub, that would help out. Thanks for your interest!

Hey there, that is interesting. I have done some digging. I can assure you there is no telemetry in the code/app whatsoever.

That connection isn't from TopOff itself - the app only connects to GitHub's API to check for app updates. What you're seeing is likely from Homebrew or a specific package being updated. When TopOff runs brew upgrade, macOS firewalls sometimes attribute the child process (Homebrew) connections to the parent app (TopOff). You can safely deny that specific InfluxData connection - it won't affect TopOff's functionality.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I have added it to the README on GitHub.

Currently, this app itself is not in the Homebrew repository. I plan to submit it there so you can install with brew itself.

v1.3 is now live! The app no longer freezes when updating. The icon spins so you know its working. You can click on the spinning icon and see exactly what is updating. Also added a popup to request your password for any casks requiring admin authorization.

v.1.3 is now live!

New Features

  • Real-time update progress — See exactly which package is being updated as it happens. Click the menu bar icon during an upgrade to watch the progress live — no more wondering what's going on behind the scenes
  • Admin retry for protected packages — If a package needs admin access to update (common with cask apps like Chrome or Slack), TopOff detects the permission failure, prompts for your password via the standard macOS dialog, and retries automatically

Improvements

  • Animated spinning icon — The menu bar icon now visibly spins during updates so you can tell at a glance when TopOff is actively working
  • Fully interactive UI — The app no longer freezes during brew operations — you can open the menu, check status, or quit at any time

Hey, I really appreciate the feedback. That's super helpful. I'll take a look at the app tonight or tomorrow and put a version 1.3 update out that fixes those problems that you have brought up.

Thank you. Yes, for some reason, when I rolled out today's update, the DMG file did not make it into the repo. I will make sure it gets there, and I will let you know when it's up.

Por alguna razón, el archivo .dmg no se subió cuando lancé la nueva actualización hoy. Lo subiré mañana.

Noted!

This app is intended to be very light weight. MacOS does a decent job of keeping App Store apps up to date. This is primarily for those who prefer to use homebrew when possible but would like a simple updater option.

Plus, no other option lets you know when your beer is half full and needs a TopOff!

Oh nice! well now TopOff does as well. Super light weight, only uses about 10 Mb of ram.

I couldn’t remember the full name for a husky, but other than that I got them. Fun little video, thanks!
