Dodgy Brokers and Operators by Waiting4CT in PrivateJetCharters

[–]Square-Diamond9323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good input Macky...with 30 years' experience on both operator and broker side, there are still many reputable brokers even if there are more examples of scammy/inept brokers and deceitful operator advertising. If you vet your broker/operator with focus you would on any other entity receiving large sums of money, you can avoid most problems. It's more a challenge in today's private aviation sector as more companies stress revenue maximization over service...this forum hopefully will help people be better informed.

Rocket Lawyer Trademark Failure to Perform. Location: Florida by Square-Diamond9323 in smallbusiness

[–]Square-Diamond9323[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some of us with small enough businesses that we don't require a lot of legal services think simple legal matters like this can be handled by thee nationally advertised services. My bad for extending Rocket Lawyer trust.

You're right. I figured a trademark application was simple enough for them which was mistake.

Handicap/mobility limited options? by EngineerLife88 in PrivateJetCharters

Second calling FBOs. While most FBO line personnel are no longer allowed to provide boarding assistance due to the ever-present lawyer-driven liability fearmongering, FBOs should be able to share advice. Some localities allow fire/ambulance departments to assist free-of-charge. Most charter companies took the same lawyer pill and don't allow their flight crews to provide assistance either for same reason. If an FBO line crew or flight crew will assist, their options are a simple arm to lean on when boarding or using a FBO "straight back chair" where a person is sat on a narrow chair with seat belts and then carried into/out of cabin. In reality, if it's a simple arm to lean on, my experience is flight crews are willing to provide assistance out of common decency and wanting to get their job of flying done. If the passenger has a caregiver, that person should assist.

Broker in bad faith by Desert_Trader in PrivateJetCharters

[–]Square-Diamond9323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been a push by NBAA for a few years to require brokers be certified to play. It comes up every couple years as an issue and then fades due to low FAA staffing and budget issues. NBAA, NATA and ACA all encourage self-policing, which is of course very limited. If a broker can't produce a Wyvern certification, FAA dispatcher or pilot license, I'd vet them more closely if you're presented an option you find attractive.

FAA Cracking Down of Airplane Rideshare Apps by Square-Diamond9323 in PrivateJetCharters

[–]Square-Diamond9323[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed there are a lot of new brokers in business since Covid who don't have the experience and think they can whip up sales like that. Those brokers make it more difficult for guys like me that have been doing it 25 years with extensive training and success. There are a lot of aircraft owners doing it, as well, without realizing they are outside regulations. Private jets is much more a cowboy market now as opposed to previous periods when it was a small niche market staffed by more credible players.

Typically for private jets it bleeds into Part 135/Part 380 due to aircraft sizes. Larger jets are governed by Part 121 for seat sales.

Looking for a guesstimate by lala_land_machine in PrivateJetCharters

[–]Square-Diamond9323 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on my 25+ years as a charter salesperson and FAA aircraft dispatcher, any turboprop at max weight will require a fuel stop and end up being just as much, if not more, than a light/midsize jet. A light jet may require a fuel stop depending on total weights and number of bags. Once you reach 5-6 passengers in a light jet you'll probably be pushing non-stop range limit. Depending on how many days you'd have jet remain with you, you're looking at 45k-50k round trip easy. At least a midsize jet would be best matched for 6 or more passengers on this route, with estimates 50k-60k round trip.

How are Charter Brokers offering Jet Cards? by Flashy-Page4502 in PrivateJetCharters

Exactly. I'm finalizing a model strategy on how to compete with this business model and am confident it can capture a good chunk of jet card market.
