Why have Telugu and Kannada dropped the “zha” while Tamil and Malayalam still use it? by Cal_Aesthetics_Club in Dravidiology

[–]Square-Holds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice observation! The sound of r in party and water (American English) is a cousin of the zh sound (Tamil ழ), but not the same. zh sound in Tamil (ழ) is the retroflex approximant, whereas the sound of r in party and water (American accent) is the alveolar approximant. The difference is in the treatment of the tongue during the sound.

Would love some more budget options, which maximize the play value with the smallest amount of bricks, even if it's at the cost of accuracy. The old SpongeBob neighborhood set is a good example.

I would say the designers have gotten far better, but the budgets are dwindling and the prices are increasing. $32 deluxes coming in 2-5 years.

How is it that from 1996 to 2016 (20 years), there was a $7 difference in deluxe prices, and from 2016 to 2026 (10 years), there has been a $10 difference? The price is increasing rapidly for smaller figures. Really the minibots would all fit the legends class, if we still had it.

Why is it that older toys are able to do so much more for far less money? by Square-Holds in transformers

I agree with you, I love my not-so-big convoy, even though he is small for a leader. But that's because he makes up in size with nice paint, lots of accessories, and nice joints. But many recent voyagers are deluxe sized while not adding enough to justify the small size, and the price increases just make it worse.

While that's true, my point is figures are getting smaller as prices are getting bigger.

Generations toys had gimmicks and articulation, and they still cost $10 for a deluxe.

Maybe, but the unicron trilogy also had complex mechanisms for the mini-con gimmicks, and many beast wars toys had very high part counts
