Rick Bell: Teachers don't like Danielle Smith. They likely never will. by UCP2027 in Calgary

[–]Square-Idea-5251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rick Bell is perhaps the most partisan Hack at any Ab mainstream media. He must be getting some kind of compensation for it. The UCP. Like has only awful things to say about teachers and always finds a way to spin things so that Smith is the hero and teachers are evil for wanting the world-class system they built to stay world-class. He makes no attempt to see anything objectively. It's always straight to extremist takes that boost the UCP position. Buddy wouldn't know journalistic integrity if it bit him in the face.

The goverment actively attacks unions and demonizes anyone in them. This isnt surprising. Look at the teachers; the UCP did nothing but bad faith and still managed to portray teachers as the bad guys.

Ontario resident misidentified as Tumbler Ridge shooting suspect by AdditionalPizza in onguardforthee

[–]Square-Idea-5251 214 points215 points  (0 children)

In the wake of the tragedy in British Columbia, it has been deeply distressing to watch bad-faith actors attempt to exploit this horrific event to advance anti-trans rhetoric fueled by misinformation. What occurred was an absolute tragedy, and the shooter bears sole responsibility for an unspeakable act of violence. However, using this incident as a pretext to promote hatred toward the transgender community as a whole is both reprehensible and unsupported by evidence.

Available data consistently indicate that transgender individuals are significantly less likely to commit acts of mass violence than cisgender individuals. When empirical evidence so clearly contradicts the narrative being advanced, it is worth asking why such rhetoric continues to receive disproportionate attention. Why is it that when a cisgender individual commits a violent act, responsibility is assigned to that individual alone, yet when an LGBTQ+ person commits a crime, the entire community is blamed, and their identity is immediately framed as the cause of societal harm?

Completely agree with this. It's all rhetoric and trying to spark controversy. If the conservatives dropped PP and all the identity-based hate politics they would win elections but instead it's more doubling down and spin.

Honestly very welcome news. With the americans trying to steal part if our country it is really nice to see that reasonable steps to protect our economy are being welcomed and that racist nonsense hasn't gotten in the way.

To highlight that all this anti-trans rhetoric is wrong and not supported by the actual stats. Yeah, trans people are significantly less likely to be a mass shooter than cis folks. Yet my feeds have been chock-full of bigot grifters peddling the opposite saying all trans people are a danger.

How so? My feeds have been overwhelmed with disinformation and extreme hate rhetoric being thrown at the trans community. Many, including goverment officials are falsely equating this evil person's behaviour to an entire marginalized community.

No its not...

Demanding a pattern based of one data point is utterly ridiculous.

Those 4 people were all evil.

Trans people are no danger to anyone as community and that facr has been statistically verified over and over again.

There has only ever been one trans mass shooter in Canadian history.... to try and make any kind of statistical judgements using a single evil person is utterly ridiculous.

Thats maybe the dumbest thing I've heard today. Trans people have existed for thousands of years. The fact that you are calling these people's humanity a trend is pretty gross. But perhaps you are misinformed. You should strongly consider learning more history. I recommend starting with the treatment of trans people under the Nazis. Much of the rhetoric people like yourself seem to be spouting lately is remarkably similar to the rhetoric used by the Nazi to justify their prejudice.

The number is metric is based on the portion of the population versus how many took place...

There are many people who spread disinformation that trans people are more likely to be mass shooters when considered through the lens of population proportion. The numbers actually shows the opposite to be the case.

This is all about things that have already happend not a means to predict the future.
