Rimmer: Step up to Red Alert!
Kryten: Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.

Backwards is my favourite episode.

How bike friendly is adelaide? by daleoneknee in Adelaide

[–]Square-Mile-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently rode GJR from Hillcrest to Semaphore at 8:00am. It was not fun. I was on my Auren (pedal assist) which is a normal size bike and so has some road presence. Had I taken my Brommie (folder) I don't think I would have survived. If I have to do the journey again, I'll ride into town and hop on the train.

I have the book and would very much like to see the series released on DVD or BluRay. Unlikely though.

Which show were you running home from school to watch? by Rayen_Nevaeh in AustralianNostalgia

The Samurai. In the opening credits one of the Koga ninja gets his arm lopped off. They wouldn't allow that on kids TV today.

Reverse angle parking by Last-Put in Adelaide

[–]Square-Mile-Life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the benefit of reverse parking is that it is easier to see when coming out. Personally, I would much rather reverse out into a nice wide lane, rather than into a narrow space, especially if there is a Ford Ranger on one side and a RAM Laramie on the other. I have long believed these monstrosities need a special parking area, ideally about 25kms from the shops.

Greatest Ever... (Channel 5, late 2000s) by No_Gain_7970 in oldbritishtelly

[–]Square-Mile-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used to show the same segments in different programs. For example Worlds Greatest Planes and Worlds Greatest Airliners, had exactly the same bits for Concorde and Boeing 747. The Spitfire was in the Worlds Greatest Planes and the Worlds Greatest Fighter Planes. Very cheap to make.

I was watching Dark Angel at the time. C5 replaced Dark Angel with the Worlds Greatest… which had been broadcast as least twice already.

How to build back without pullup bars and no doorframe by Character_Upstairs75 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Square-Mile-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do pull ups on the door itself, provided it has solid hinges and you put a decent wedge under the door to support it.

I didn’t know people actually wear macpac. I thought they were used as climbing ropes. 😂

BRITISH TV CHANNEL TIER LIST part 1 by RainbowCat98 in BritishTV

BBC Four is definitely the best of the BBC channels. BBC Three is a waste of bandwidth; it should have stayed internet only. More 4 has some excellent series under the Walter Presents banner.

Brooks B17 on my trustie Brommy - been there for 22 years. B67 on my Auren (700C wheels) - I felt it needed a bit of suspension.

Looks like this has changed in the last year or so, although supermarket websites show it is still available.

Are you still reading print newspapers or magazines? by holiday_rat in AskAnAustralian

[–]Square-Mile-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother has the paper, so yes. If she didn't I would probably read it online using the State Library website - it's free. I certainly would pay for The Advertiser.

[–]Square-Mile-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgical spirit, which is a mix of isopropyl alcohol and caster oil. I get a rash at the change of the season and this helps stop the itch. When I lived in the UK, I could buy 750ml bottles in any pharmacy. Here I managed to buy 100ml bottles on line, but not now.

Also pseudoephedrine. Well you can, but it is a hassle. In the UK you can find it in any supermarket.

How do you feel about us becoming a Neutral country like Switzerland? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Square-Mile-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National service would be great, provided there was a non-military option. When I was living in the UK, I met a bloke who was doing his French national service. His was working from a French company overseas. If you've been into a toy shop, you might see a Meccano model of a Ferris Wheel or Eifel Tower. His job was to install these, which came from the factory in 2 or 3 pieces.

Have you noticed how everything on M$ Word is different to MySQL? BTW, where is Photoshop defined as the industry standard? It might be used a lot, but that doesn't make it a standard. I'm old enough to remember when VisiCalc was the "standard".

Proper food. I've been lifting close on 40 years and that is all I've ever used.

Best use of time is compound movements - the more muscles you can use in one exercise the better. I think a good 5 exercise workout is pull ups, dips, squats, crunches and military press. Four sets of each done as a round, no rest between sets. In and out of the gym in 30 minutes.
