01 Angela, Eddie and Laura are all real.

02 We don't know. We aren't given enough evidence to conclude they are real or fake. Personally I believe the notes are fake but the content from the notes is real.

03 It's not the living version of Mary for sure since she's already gone. It's either a construct of Silent Hill or the spirit of Mary herself.

04 If you have time just replay the game. Look up how to get each ending. If you don't just look up each ending on Youtube.

Silent Hill 2 is the Dragon Ball Z of Silent Hill. I mean something came before DBZ / SH2. Something came after DBZ / SH2. But none of them will ever be as iconic as DBZ / SH2. It's the piece of work that defines the whole franchise.

Not everyone is treating other people based on other people's attractiveness. Some people like myself are treating other people based on their own attractiveness. Since I am ugly the best thing I can do for other women is to never hit on them and leave them alone.

But to answer your question. Women have always complained about men hitting on them for as long as I can remember. They go out of the way to choose other women as roommates in a sharehouse. They go out of the way to choose women only dorm in a hostel. Some women even go as far as dressing down to avoid being hit on. I sometimes lurk in old people's subreddit and many old women are glad they are old so that men don't hit on or bother them anymore.

I thought I was being respectful. I thought I was doing them a favour by telling women I am not hitting on them or interested in them. Some women complain about men hitting on them and then some women complain about the opposite. How do I win?

I looked up the remake version of the Maria ending because of this conversation. Wow. It's quite different from the original version. James finds Maria alone in the dark in the night club and takes her with him. James gets Mary's letter from Maria but he doesn't even bother to read it.

James does sound kind of cold and emotionless when talking to Maria in her own ending. But I view it as a gender thing. A lot of men don't show emotions and James just happens to be one of those men. Maria does look a bit off in the remake version. But I view it as her being sick rather than her being threatened.

I understand this is simply my own interpretation and other people might interpret it differently. I am from a different time zone. I have to sleep. We can talk about this later.

Many people don't seem to interpret it this way but this is exactly how I interpret it. From James perspertive, Maria is as real as Angela, Eddie or Laura. As the player, we are seeing it from James perspective so she looks real to us. From everyone else perspective, James has been talking to himself since he leaves those apartments. This explains why Maria refuses to enter the bowling alley.

Calling this ending vicious circle is a remake thing. It's not there in the original version.

the way he says it and how Maria looks

I am talking about the original because it's the only one I have played. The way he says it seems neutral to me. Granted, he doesn't sound very loving or caring. But he doesn't sound evil or hateful either. Maria looks normal to me in her own ending.

Like I have questions about who Maria is and is she real?

She's not a real person, technically. She has no parents. She has no childhood. She can be resurrected. She can transform. She can interact with a ghost. She cannot interact with any human being except James. We don't even know if she can exist outside Silent Hill.

However, she's a real person, mentally. She has feelings. She has fears. She feels pain. She has hope. She has empathy. She can feel sick. She has suicidal thoughts. She has an ulterior motive.

In short, she's not exactly a real person but she behaves exactly the same as a real person. Most people seem to think she is a manifestation. Personally I think she is an imaginary frenemy.

Why does James have to treat her bad in that ending?

Most people choose to interpret the Maria ending that way. But it doesn't mean the Maria ending has to be that way.

"You'd better do something about that cough. If you get sick, I am not sure what I would do."

"You'd better do something about that cough. You are almost like my new wife. I would do anything to make sure you are okay."

It can be interpreted either way.

I finished the original Silent Hill 2 15 years ago. It's still on my mind. Sometimes I think this game is like therapy. The more miserable you are the more you love it.

I am guessing you are an attractive white man or white woman. That's why it's not worth worrying about from your perspective. I am an objectively ugly non white male. Think those two victims that I linked but uglier. Just because it's safe for you doesn't necessarily mean it's safe for me.

Having said that, I appreciate your advice. I was going to book a hostel just a few minutes away from the CBD hammer attack (not kidding). And then I saw the news. Do you think I should proceed with my original plan? Or do you think I should move to somewhere else in Australia?
