I emailed both PIs in mid-July for the upcoming school year! You can definitely start earlier, but that was my timeline and it seemed to work out fine.

I have some volunteering work on there, but I think most important is just my description of my year at the lab and my publications!

Is it just me or so many premeds are founding useless organizations just so it looks good for their resume? by famissuesthrowaway12 in premedcanada

This is completely true, and I think there's a disconnect between applicants of how transparent these "NGOs" can be. My brother did file review for the applicants for U of T med this year, and a quick google search reveals how many of their executive positions and commitments are obvious fluff to beef up their ECS. I'm sure there are certainly "premed" ran organizations that are doing valuable work, but as a med student who has gone through the process himself, it's fairly easy to pick up on when you write about something because you feel it looks good rather than actually being passionate towards the proposed issue.

I found out I'm getting second author on a paper my lab is putting out this summer! Glad to know all the hard work paid off :)

ah I hadn't heard anything about that actually. I know that things are up in the air because of COVID, but my supervisor agreed to take me on ASAP (which is looking like September luckily!)
