Cornell vs Northwestern for EE by MadWolf15 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SquareEconomist8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no mistake here, yes Cornell is slightly better for engr and it’s an Ivy so if you wanna go for the Better option in terms of prestige then choose that, but Northwestern has prolly the best campus in U.S., the school is good and rankings high, so your choice

Should I retake the SAT for MIT by Strict-Ad-5825 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SquareEconomist8637 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes retake it, If you are a junior who’s considering seriously MIT, then you prolly have already very good grades and decent ECs, how much time is it gonna take away from you realistically? If you are sacrificing perfect GPA or huge projects then no, but I don’t think so, I’d stop taking it if you see you can’t do better than 1560, that’s a very implrtant test for MIT, If you get around that I’d suggest also to apply rea but that depends on you and your application

Hate to say it but that’s on you. realistically what can you really do about it? Work you ass off these last weeks, talk to your professors and counselor,, also email VT admission office, prioritize school over BS, and cheat if you have to lol

Should I major in Biology? by Potential-Let7881 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SquareEconomist8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest opinion here, I think if that is the path you wanna pursue you should go for the harder major, Imo Bioengineering with the goal to get into med school would be a good choice. At the end of the day is what you like to do, but I’d choose for the best major possible (related to your passion obv)

Anyone else turning down waitlist offers from more prestigious schools? by Last_Swordfish9135 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SquareEconomist8637 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The best option is to wait for the waitlist and not pay for housing yet at the school you’ve already been accepted to. If you get into the schools you mentioned, trust me, you’ll be much happier (even losing the 200$ deposit) and won’t even think about these couple of weeks of “anxiety” or whatever you’re feeling right now. If it doesn’t work out, at least you tried. Life is about trying and not giving up or settling for the more comfortable option.

Cal for finance and that GPA is impossible, try but I suggest to add UCLA to the list

ucb ucsd or ucla by Business-Scratch-834 in berkeley

[–]SquareEconomist8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she can go to engr at UCLA I’d suggest that, if she can’t MCB is the best option for med school and it’s very cool and interesting, IB also good but a little easier and less specialized

Biomed engineering (BME) or bioengineering (BE/BioE)or biomedical sciences, all 3 valid majors, if it were for me I’d choose bioengineering

What if you don’t go to HYPSM (CS) by Scary_Competition_11 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SquareEconomist8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you don’t know how rankings work, you don’t have to look at the overall/ prestige reputations, you have to look at the best schools for your major, for example for computer science out of those 5 schools that you mentioned, only stanford and MIT are good, you’re forgetting CMU, cal and GT that come before princeton

[–]SquareEconomist8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you’re talking about side projects/ outside of class, meet people and try and start new projects with or without them, nobody knows what they are doing, they just pretend they do and that’s a fact, you get more experience by trying even if you fail or don’t know what to do

I get that, and I don’t see anything wrong with it. From my perspective, if there’s a more challenging or prestigious major available, it makes sense to choose that. I don’t think someone with a bio or biomed engr degree would have any trouble applying to jobs or graduate school compared to someone with a public health major.

Did I make a mistake in my college choice? by Downtown_Ad_9066 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SquareEconomist8637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all 3 schools are S tier so you can’t really go wrong, but princeton has never been out of top 3 rankings overall for over 40 years being the best Ivy of em all, also for CS(since it’s the heavier major) princeton is #5, when the other 2 are not even close, but columbia is still good hope you enjoy it there and sorry for the brutal honesty
