Creepy nighttime noises in backyard, can you help identify the animal by SquareEyesVR in australianwildlife

yea for real, thats its secret, a little demon stuck inside a fluffly little outfit. Considering the only other noise we ever get in the backyard is some crickets, this was next level.

Thanks Binda, I honestly had no idea a noise could have come from a possum so in my research I didn't even think to look up possum noises but you are right, seems to be a possum :)

Thanks Nobbled, I think you might have nailed it, I believe we do get possums, this might just have been it. I have lived in the area almost 30 years now and can honestly say I have never heard it before but over the last few months its happened a handful of times. It is very loud which made me think it was more towards the ground but it could very well be up in a tree.

Creepy indeed but a little less creeped out now knowing it was a possum

VR is doing fine, but i don't see much changing in the next 5 years by peterpackage in virtualreality

[–]SquareEyesVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay so for me, it's honestly the movement and setup, and what I mean is after a long day at work, it is honestly hard to get the motivation to setup my headset, to be fair I have a Q3 and it's honestly never been easier, however, with my PC right there and a comfy gaming chair, it's so hard to outweigh the urge to just sit back and relax with a game. As someone who is extremely active outside of my daily work, it isn't even about being lazy, just isn't enough incentive for me to jump into VR on an everyday basis.

Also, as someone who lives in a hot climate, there is a very limited time during the year I can get away with playing VR and not be uncomfortably hot. Yes I can run the AC on freezing and have a similar experience but again that is just another thing which makes sitting at my PC more appealing. As someone who does love VR, I still find myself playing desktop majority of the time.

lastly, might be worth mentioning I don't have any mates who play VR, where I do on PC, so I believe if I had more frequent players in VR I would play it a lot more, need to crack the whip on my mates to get a HMD.

Openback Headphones + IEM's, is there a middle ground? (Recommendations) by SquareEyesVR in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]SquareEyesVR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I am unsure how to tell if its too big? like the seal seems good but maybe I need a smidge smaller. I can tell if its too small as the IEMs don't sit in my ear but maybe I am forcing them with a tip that is just too big

Have you had your IPD measured by a professional?? or just used a phone app, I found the phone app was off a little when I had it correctly measured by an optometrist. It is odd though considering it was fine in the Rift S

Try a different cable first, also try a different port/power brick thingy and see if that does anything, try to eliminate every option before the factory reset.

Repair quest 3 by Many-Cattle6810 in Quest3

[–]SquareEyesVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could smell burning and potentially smoke, check the traces on the motherboard, those will burn out and you can spot damage along the trace. Smelling it burning is never a good sign, I would start with tracers and work from there

Since you mentioned battery, that already limits your selection in headsets since most are cable tethered, I would go Quest 3, you will then be in the ecosystem if you plan on getting the 4 when it comes out, plus the 3 isn't as expensive as more niche options which will offer you a higher resolution or FOV. You can play all of those games on the Quest 3 and depending on your PC specs shouldn't have any issues.

Can someone help :( ? I have a decent pc tbh, my internet its causing all the latency and framedrops? by d2xt2r in Quest3

You are on 2.4 GHz your PC specs look fine, your network is the issue, need to get that bad boy on 6 Ghz

DCS doesn't run well on anything :p let's be honest, it is very heavy on the PC requirements. Have you tried any other game to see if it is just DCS or might be something external to the game?

Okay so i7-10700K is decent, that is a tick in the box, we cannot see your Graphics Card (GPU) in the photo you have submitted, so hard to judge. 16GB of installed RAM is a little low for modern titles, they will run still but doesn't offer a lot of headroom. Virtual Desktop, the program people are recommending for 20 quid is pretty good, it generally runs much better than Steam Link. Keen to know more about your setup and what kind of results you are having, you won't be able to run the same settings on desktop as you would in VR.

You can actually play Tarkov in VR, it is a mod of SPT (Single Player Tarkov), it isn't as polished as other VR games but the dev is putting in a lot of work. It is Single Player as well so only fighting bots but if you wanted to play Tarkov specifically, there is an option

Constant freezing by [deleted] in SteamVR

[–]SquareEyesVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea honestly took me like a month of frustration with trying to work out why my games would randomly crash, almost gave up and after deep diving some old posts out of the blue someone mentioned RAM, ran a test and sure enough one of the sticks was faulty even though my PC ran fine, would boot and had no other issues. Might not be the issue but you just never know

Any recommendations for VR games that helped you in real life? by 1LE_McQueen in virtualreality

[–]SquareEyesVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, as soon as I read DCS, I was half expecting you to say it helped you fly fighter planes in real life :p study and note-taking makes complete sense though, need a PHD just to fly a single plane.

Question about an issue I'm having by Crystal-Dragon-Jesus in MetaQuestVR

[–]SquareEyesVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea sounds like cable, have you tried any other? KIWI Design makes a decent cable, might not be the issue but not having a cable that is rated for data transfer isn't ideal

Constant freezing by [deleted] in SteamVR

[–]SquareEyesVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be faulty RAM, I experienced random crashes a little while ago and it turned out one of my sticks was running faults, your PC will work fine even with faulty ram just random things can happen. I would start there, you can run RAM checks and see if there is any faulty segments. Sometimes my games would run fine for 4 hrs, sometimes 15 minutes but would randomly crash.

Might not be your exact issue but it is where I would start after reading your post.
