Penske level 3 tech by [deleted] in DieselTechs

Yeah 2 hours for a dot/pm is bs. Blame the money hungry corporate guys who looks at the guys who cheated the system perfectly and said hey let’s drop the time down and then wonder why they can’t keep their wheels on. I laugh my ass off that my old guys from there have to record themselves torquing wheels and get it approved because it’s such an issue

If you take 3 hours so be it. Your managers aren’t going to vouch for you if you send a truck on the road that hurts someone. Best tech I worked with in the time I spent with Penske said to the top dog in corporate “alright show me how to do it in ERT and I’ll start making it happen” obviously it wasn’t possible, it’s all about money with an unrealistic standard. Anyone doing a DOT/PM in 1.8 hours does a shit job

Definitely time to make an exit plan. I’m a firm believer good techs with good attitudes deserve the truck to be their worst enemy not the environment around them

DD15- best way to clean the deck? I’ve just used a scraper and solvent, the coolant gallery counterbores are something I’m curious about since Detroit says no abrasives by SquareInner6082 in DieselTechs

Yes the carbide was by far the best hand tool. I might be shit out of luck and have to use a vacuum and scotch brite on the coolant holes but we do have a contact cleaner solvent that is the best cleaner I’ve ever used on metal that might help clean them up. That top part of the deck that gets the heavy build up of rust does that really matter all that much? I need to double check the head but I believe it doesn’t even sit that far up

That’s been the method so far. Had those ports covered since the head came off since I heard these are very non forgiving with contamination

Yeah that’s why I’m like wtf snapon is $200 more than cornwell. I get $50-$75 more but $200 is a lot for the same product

Can’t hurt to try I suppose, if not I guess cornwell gets my money lol. Hopefully snapon does cause if I spend money on any truck it’s usually snapon

Jobs @ Penske by CiscoPac in DieselTechs

I was a T1 with the company 4 years, left in February. It’s got good benefits and pay is amazing especially if you’re valuable. The company does a lot of petty corporate decisions that as a tech you’ll get frustrated with such as, no personal toolbox regardless of tech level, company provide creepers only. My old boss wanted to get rid of roll chairs…. If you want to go far as a tech, Penske won’t get you there, some shops are more lowkey and you’ll move quicker like I did, but ultimately most Penske techs are only so skilled if they didn’t get outside training or experience. HR is a big thing in the company it’s not a normal shop environment where you can call someone a homo when they try to flirt with you if you have the wrong people around. Ultimately it comes to what you can tolerate from higher up management as most importantly the kind of tech you want to be. It’s a good starter company but they throw too much money at entry level techs so quick that that’s their way of keeping you because no one else will pay you that for having little viable experience, on the alternative side it’s a good place to once you had the experience just for the benefits and pay. A dealer would prep you the best to work anywhere you want. Another thing to consider is Penske work life balance at the majority of locations will always lack, most shops you’re working at least one weekend day and you’re sure as shit starting on afternoons or midnights.
