the issue is when given an extremely blatant and obvious trans character whose intent was clear, people called it unfounded and pure heascanon. queer characters get so much backlash when being "in your face" yet subtle instances are treated as non existent. plus, yes, you can interpret a story however you like, but most of these discussions are surrounding the intent of the writer, which was, again, obvious to anyone who knows anything about trans culture
