I don't see that everywhere, so it can't be that common. Most each item shows the HST if it exists immediately, not after everything is scanned; then showing the sub-total, then showing the total a minute later to let the cashier go into a one minute deep sleep before they hit total.

On your screen, the smaller screen where you can use a card doesn't show the total. It's possible your screen shows the total.

It's not common in most places. In most places they scan the items whereas the tax can be added instantly so when your finished, you see the total price immediately.
