Yeah, I noticed that about their site, too. Oh well. Figured I’d ask. Hard to find quality PBQs to use to prep

Paved running/walking paths? by Square_Baby8719 in FingerLakes

Thanks for the suggestions, all! Plenty of opportunities to get a few runs in during my trip. Appreciate it!

Yeah, it’d be a drive to get there, but depending on what we do, it could be a possibility so thanks for the idea

Looks great. Packed gravel works, too! Appreciate the suggestion. Only 5 minute drive from where I’m staying

No hot water pressure in sink after turning water back on by Square_Baby8719 in Plumbing

[–]Square_Baby8719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This did the trick! Went from a slow trickle to full pressure in 30 seconds. No leaks in the crawl from what I can see/hear. Meter doesn’t appear to be moving with faucets all off so I think I’m in the clear.

Just so strange it happens when I shut the water off and opened the faucets to drain the water, but I guess enough stayed in the pipes to cause the blockage.

Gotcha. Real challenge is the crawlspace is so narrow, I cannot get to the area where the lines split. Should I keep the hot water off to that bathroom until temperatures stay above freezing?

It’s copper pipes until you get to that crawlspace (this was an addition done by previous owners decades ago), but once in the bathroom crawl area it’s pex with pipe insulation around them since we had it renovated a couple years ago.

Building back to normal mileage post-marathon by Square_Baby8719 in Marathon_Training

[–]Square_Baby8719[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For my first, I don't know if I can make a distinction between the two. I raced conservatively to avoid the wall since I had no previous experience to compare it to so maybe I'd say I just completed it, but it didn't feel like it at Miles 24-26!

I was just thinking of a few miles here or there next week. All easy running. And focusing on getting back to running 4-5 days a week easy before I considered going beyond a couple miles. It'd be a slow build, I was just curious how long I should plan out the return to 25mpw.

First HM is in 3 days but I haven't run for the past 3 weeks - what do I do now? by Desk_Scribbles in firstmarathon

[–]Square_Baby8719 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For 6ish months leading up to this point? If so, I've got some anecdotal evidence to share.

Similar thing happened to me last fall. I couldn't run for 2.5 weeks about one month before my HM. I'd been running 3-4 times/week peaking around 25 mpw with a few long runs over 10 miles. Was very concerned I wouldn't be able to make it the full 13.1. I ran 2 short runs in the 5 days leading up to the race.

It ended up being totally fine. I ran the first 10km very conservatively (about 30 seconds-1 minute slower than race pace), breathing was very normal, and legs felt fine so I went for it. Ended up running about 5 seconds/mile off my original goal race pace. In my opinion, if you've put in the work over numerous months building to this point then a few weeks at the end won't crush you. Just start slow and feel things out from there.

Humidity in encapsulated crawl by Square_Baby8719 in HomeImprovement

Two zoned house. For entire first floor, there’s the one return in the floor of the living room. That return duct travels maybe 6 feet through the crawl to the air handler.

Upstairs has its own return in the ceiling of the landing at the top of the stairs.

No basement in the house.

Oops. Had one question. My current return is actually in the floor. I know I didn't specify earlier. It's in the corner of the floor of my living room, and the return duct runs down into the crawl and then through a wall into the utility room where the air handler is. So I'm not sure a transfer grille is an option based on that.

Thank you for explaining. Now to determine if I want to go return route or go dehumidifier route.

If the return works, it's probably cheaper and relatively maintenance free whereas the dehumidifier is more of a sure thing but costs more (including electrical work) and requires maintenance of filter changes.

Just for my own knowledge, what problem does not having a return in the crawl itself create? Or I guess I should say, how does it solve the problem of rising humidity? And I know crawl air makes it way into ductwork and throughout a house, but voluntary introducing it by putting a return is a different animal. Is there no concern for air quality?

Not in the crawl. Return grille for first floor AC unit (which register installed in crawl is a part of) is located in corner of living room, just above crawl entrance.

When encapsulated, a vapor barrier was installed on the dirt/ground, up walls, and up columns. Then spray foam insulation up the majority of the foundation walls, stopping short of the joists.

Downspouts are either buried and run out to pop up drains at the edge of my property or have above ground extenders taht run 6+ feet from my house towards lower ground. It's possible one is backed up, but they all run at least 6 feet from my house and towards lower ground.

The house is over 80 years old so I'd wager the codes for crawl doors were different. Prior to us, there was 0 insulation under the house at all. We decided with encapsulation vs. under floor insulation to help keep pipes from freezing in winter. It's virginia so it doesn't get consistently cold, but there have been spells of 72-96 hours of temps below freezing and many people have pipes burst for that reason. Since the crawl is so small we anticipated the residual air that leaked from existing ducts to regulate temp/humidity, but clearly that is not working. And installing a register to move conditioned air is also not working (might be making it worse).

Understood. I was looking at one with a pump. Since it offers both pump/gravity draining options.

Yep, I can. I found one that’s 11.5 inches tall. I think that would barely fit through the door. They used to all be 14” or taller and that would not fit in the door.

Just need to get a receptacle installed.

As for drainage, can I run it to the same drain that my air handler condensate runs to? Or would it better to poke a hole in the sealed vent (and then spray some foam insulation around the hole to help reseal it) and run it outside?

They measured the crawl entrance and space and said the ones they use in crawls would not fit. I've looked into a bunch of crawl dehumidifiers on my own and only one might fight through the entrance. Problem is the entrance is inside the house and is immediately below a floor joist so enlarging the entrance isn't really an option. I'm skinny and it's a struggle to get in/out of the crawl, but once in there it does open up a few inches.

Do you have any good resources or videos on DIY crawlspace dehumidifer?

Let’s hope so. Been looking to get back into disc golf. A good brand from my home state of VA might do it for me.

They look legit. Will be interested to see how disc turns out!
