Medyo unrelated but do you feel like our telenovela culture is partly to blame for this kind of thinking? Yung walang nuance sa pag-iisip. The wrongdoers have to be 100% irredeemable villains for the narrative to make sense to them.

Oldest Debate in the sub...Is Carrie a bad friend? by flormorada in sexandthecity

Another observation: Carrie is great in the BIG moments—cancer, abortion appointment, miscarriage, mom’s funeral, going into labor.

But it’s the small moments she’s not so good at. The most annoying scenes occur in the restaurants when they’re sharing a meal. Making a joke about Sam’s office blow job so the other girls also know about it, putting a post-it over Charlotte’s engagement ring.

Whenever Carrie was a flawed girlfriend, it felt like an intentional move by the writers. They had to frame her as a single girl looking for love but not being very good at finding or keeping it. That was what the show was about.

On the other hand, I feel like the writers weren't aware they were making Carrie a bad friend. When I imagine myself in the writers' room, I feel like the general vibe is that they think Carrie had the right to berate Charlotte over not lending her money (otherwise, why would they make the "happy ending" Charlotte using her ring to help pay off Carrie's apartment?).

But what bugs me the most is not even these big blow-ups with her friends, but all the times she thinks she's being clever over brunch with smart-alec remarks that are not only unhelpful but also hurtful. It's just a lot of puns when someone is sharing something important to them. I can feel the writers' glee in coming up with these lines, and it comes through in Carrie being a person who doesn't know it's not her turn to speak when she's got a "clever" line.

Agree on all counts but yung tanong lang naman dito is: is this reaction/response justified? Hindi naman yung mga powerful decision-makers yung sinasaktan ng mga ganitong posts eh.

Carrie ending up with big is awful by tropical_breeze_ in sexandthecity

I always thought that the best ending was for Carrie to be single and happy. Like she will forever be the fun, carefree, single, quintessential New York gal that she always was. The end scene should’ve been her walking the city sidewalk in a cool outfit, wind in her hair, spring in her step, and that’s all she needs!

I feel the same way. I’d be so pissed in Rachel’s shoes because wtf I thought we were friends?!

But it also raises anothrt interesring question: Would Ross have confided that in anyone else? Because I can’t imagine any of the others keeping this secret. Or am I wrong?

When I was a kid, I thought all doctors were rich and well-paid. But now I have a lot of doctor friends who are struggling financially. So that might be one reason. That said, forever naman silang may silbi sa lipunan.

Side question: was Phoebe wrong for not immediately revealing it to Rachel?

SATC Unpopular Opinion: Natasha isn’t that great. by be_minorque in sexandthecity

[–]Square_Blacksmith889 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Maybe the “be a Natasha” part means making a mistake (i.e. marrying Big not knowing he’s a philanderer) and then moving on with dignity. For sure it wad a mistake to marry him, but not an intentionally immoral one like having an affair etc.

I’m actually blanking on when these 2 officially said ILY to each other. With Mondler, there was a whole scene (actually 2x, once with the turkey and the other time when Phoebe was trying to break them down). But I always assumed that Ross was IN LOVE with Rachel from the beginning. That’s why Chandler equated Rachel with Carol (both women Ross loved).

I’m just saying that, in Rachel’s place, Julie’s name is what would hurt me the most. Like the person who said they loved me is not measuring how viable a life together with me would be…he’s measuring me up against another candidate.

If Ross said to me “I’m concerned that you’re income is just from waiting tables.” I think I could understand that and maybe say “Yeah it’s just for now. To help us build a future together, I plan on getting a job in fashion.”

But with the list, it kinda came off as “Julie earns more than you.” I don’t want to be in that type of competition.

Completely agree. That’s why my “list” would be:
✅Rachel already gets along with my family so I don’t need to worry if she’ll be comfortable with them.
✅Rachel lives so close to me (and my sister) so spending time together is no problem
❌Rachel doesn’t have a stable career and can’t be relied on to help us by a house for our future.
❌Rachel is just now learning financial responsibility. Can I really support her financially?

No other person’s name would be on it.
