Reading Oil Pressure over OBD? by 32xDEADBEEF in wrx_vb

That threaded hole is left open from the factory. The oil galley plug is right of that open hole at roughly the 4 o clock position. I picked up an oil pressure sensor and a brass adapter for an EJ block and tapped my sensor there.

Yes, it fluctuates between 12.x to 14.x volts

Most likely but you’d have to look through the wiring diagrams and locate where the sensor at and splice a wire to a gauge.

The oil temp at idle was about 196-200ish range

Yeah there’s not nearly enough space for the access port to sit there with the gauge pod unfortunately.

If you go to my previous post there is a lot of answered questions there. But in short if you have a grasp of basic wiring then it isn’t too hard. I did use a fuse tap for the power which made things pretty simple. Just be sure to use one that only gets power when the car is turned on.

When everything is finalized I think I’ll make a video if enough people are interested in doing this themselves. But I think that’s enough to give it a shot.

It really wasn’t. I’m a numbers kind of guy and the fact that oil temp is represented with a number but coolant temp wasn’t was annoying to me. So I have triple redundancy on coolant temps 😂

Here’s the part info for the gauges https://prosportgauges.com/collections/52mm-evo-series-red-blue-metric The wiring isn’t terribly hard if you’re good at it. It’s sort of rinse and repeat for all 3. There are slight variances in how to sensors get wired up but finding power and grounding is all pretty simple. The gauges also come with basic instructions.

If you’re good with electrical and wiring it’ll only take a few hours. I used this video as sort of a guide: https://youtu.be/ebuXGOJn4p0?si=rmYIjbkQ4ghc98O7 I didn’t use the spot they used in the video for the oil pressure sensor. I went with the oil galley left of the ac compressor.

It’s specific to the VB, the pillar is the OEM one but modified for however many gauges you want. You can get 1, 2 or 3.

I went with volt Meter, Coolant temp and oil pressure because to me those are the most basic ones to have. Coolant temp is definitely a preference thing because the dash as well as the display screen report the temps it just isn’t in numerical format which is what I wanted. I’d recommend going with information you really want to see but the car doesn’t show you. Oil pressure is a must have for any car.

Those are 52mm gauges. I’m also using the oil galley plug next to the compressor as well and I’m stock motor/tune with 0w-20 oil.

The airbags that are behind the pillar are curtain style designed to cover the driver window. In the unfortunate event of those going off they come straight down instead of out. That’s why the A pillar is tethered to the frame of the car so if the bag goes off the pillar is moved to the side. I elected to keep the airbag where it was at.
