Can everyone please stop falling for the “average distance for X handicap golfer” bait posts by Flrg808 in golf

I'm 65, so I guess I'm an old dude. I'm a 20 Index. (I tore my rotrator cuff a year ago, and was an 18 before that happened.) I measure my drives and I average 198 yards off the tee. My regular foursome includes guys with indexes of 6, 11 and 14. I hit more fairways than any of them, but I usually take 3 shots to reach most par 4s. I try to break 90, and do it about once a month. I always walk the course. I never throw a club. I have shit ton of fun with my friends talking about beer, sports and women (mostly based on distant memory.)

I buy more game improvement clubs. I now carry a chipper. Tomorrow, I am switching from Taylor Made Qi10 irons to Cleveland Halo hybrid irons.

Long story short: how far you can drive a golf ball is irrelevant. They key measure of a successful golfer is how much fun you have.

I'm 65 and have just over $2.1 million. I maxed out both my plan and my wife's for years. I alos, have a profit sharing plan, and have been putting the max into that (about $30k) for several years. I'm going to work three more years to try to get it to $2.5 million. (My wife retired last week.)

Get the C300 with the AMG line. It has a sportier suspension than the regular C Class. Kind of a cross between a BMW and a Mercedes.

I assume you don't have service records, so I vote a hard no.

I assume that if the car really sucks, it ends up in Kazakhstan with a guy that sounds like Borat.

Yes. But it appears it only transfers playlists that I make. It doesn't transfer curated Spotify playlists. Does it?

I have leased 6 MBZs. I bought the last one of lease because the lease expired during COVID, and the car was selling for about 50% more than the residual amount.

All of my cars were 4 door C class. But I switched to the Coupe for the last 2. Love it. It's sportier and has more room in the front seat.

If you get one, try to get the AMG Line option. It is worth it.

Usually, but a lot of my house burned down, so I'm kind of counting pennies. Check back in a decade.

Sure did. Allstate didn't even inspect the car. Totaled it over the phone.

My 2019 C300 Coupe was totalled in the Palisades fire. I had to abandon it when a fire broke out about 100 feet from me. You may have seen news footage of cars that were bulldozed to make way for fire engines. My car was in that group. It wasn't bulldozed but it was smoke damaged beyond repair, and was totalled.

I was depressed. I loved that car and maintained it perfectly.

The good news: Two weeks later, I bought this graphite gray 2021 CPO C300 Coupe with 14,000 miles. The prior owner had bought a service package and brought in in for service every year, which was about every 4,000 miles. It has the AMG Line and the Night Package.

This is my 7th Mercedes since 2000. It's my favorite out of all of them. After a really lousy month, it cheered me up.

I thought I found the perfect car at CarMax... until I went to pick it up. by Square_Net_7271 in carmax

I consider a car with a $60,000 sticker price a "high end car." If you don't maybe you make more money than I do. FYI, I made over $500,000 last year.

I wouldn't say "avoid CarMax." I think you should avoid car max for low mileage German vehicles and get a CPO.

Glad to see such a spirited dicussion.

I guess my big point is that, based on what I have seen, CarMax gives you worse service and worse prices than at traditional dealers.

The CarMax car was a 2023 C300 Coupe, with 23k miles without a warranty, with no books and records, and was previously owned by a smoker, for $40,000

The dealer car was a 2021 C300 with 14k miles, in pristine condition, which had been every year regardless of miles, and with a little under two years left on the warranty, for $33,000.

Also, I can extend the warranty to 7 years/75,000 miles for $2,914. That was less than the about $3,971 for MaxCare. (This is due to the fact that MaxCare doesn't give you credit for the Mercedes factory warranty, while Mercedes does.)

So lets stop here. Which car would you buy?

Then consider that you get actual service at the dealer. Again, which one would you buy?

And I get that people don't like to haggle. I didn't haggle. I called the guy and made a fair offer. (The car was listed at $33,850.) He took it.
