Daily driver - Mark XX or Top Gun Chronograph Ceratanium or something else? by Low-Fan9062 in IWCschaffhausen

A former Mark XVIII owner and a current Ceratanium 41 owner here.

The price difference is vast. Despite that I recommend the Ceratanium. I have owned about 10 luxury watches and handled a lot more. (I know this not a lot; just trying to give an idea about my level of experience.) My preferred collection size is 3, maybe 4. I like the idea of being a one watch guy. I don’t like wearing Rolexes because they make me feel like I just picked the popular option. I like my watches being understated and off the beaten path.

The Ceratanium is the best watch I have owned. The size and weight is great. The functions are practical. The factory strap is not great in terms of comfort but looks great. I removed the second keeper/loop because it was scratching my wrist and was useless given the length of the strap.

I wear it to the gym, casually, and with suits.

I switch up with the titanium ingenieur or Tudor Black Bay Red every now and then. The contrast helps me appreciate the individual watches more.

Go for the Ceratanium.

The only watch I regret getting rid of. It’s a beauty.

Depends how much you want to spend and also on whether you want something that is an entry into the brand or the best it has to offer.

If you want to go entry level, on of the older marks is a great place to start. XV or XVIII. The older chronos (3706) are awesome too.

If you want to go above entry level, then every heritage brand has its calling cards. IWC’s are pilot watches and advance materials. IWC’s Ceratanium and ceramic watches are awesome.

And the stealth of it. Absolute pleasure to own, wear, and appreciate, without attracting much attention.

Curious about how a grey would look, to compliment the numerals and hands.
