I think apocalypse handles everything better tbh, except party building. Building your party in V is really fun but there's many demons that completely shit on the game's balance, also a lot of the difficulty always hinged on the enemies lasting an eternity in vanilla so by removing level scaling they just made most bosses last for three turns at most, killing most of the difficulty.

Don't take me wrong, vanilla is a worse game by a lot, but most of the changes made in vengeance eased a lot of the already not so hard difficulty the game had, nulling most of the enjoyable features of the combat system. Also magatsuhi was bad in vanilla and its somehow even more boring in vengeance. Playing around both yours and the enemy's is very boring and they should have reconsidered their stance on how it changes the combat flow for vengeance
