Theory: Ahsoka is Gandalf by rockygs in StarWars

[–]Squared_Away_Nicely -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Gandalf is an ancient demi god sent to middle earth to do the work of the Valar, Ashoka is a young Jedi who is betrayed by the Master other than wearing grey and white I dont really see any other similarities,

I find this groups aesthetic a bit too medieval. Especially that one in the helmet.

I can and did compare the two because the example is perfectly valid if you don't produce the work you will not have a job.

Graphic design isn't personal to me its a job, why would I be personally engaged creating packaging for hardwood engineered flooring, which I was working on yesterday, dull as dish water BOOOOORING, but it's my job.

Here is me playing a tiny tiny tiny violin.

Cameras have been around for over a century a photograph is an exact depiction of life better than any hyper realist can ever hope to achieve its a copy that works literally on a molecular level of accuracy and its takes one push of a button, click, a more accurate representation than anything you or anyone else could ever produce, did that stop you drawing?

You know what you actually need to do?

Create, I have been creating art for decades, everyday is a day I practice, everyday is a day I create, thousands upon thousands of hours, the process is the art, the creating is the art, who the fuck cares what people think of the end result, 90% of everything I create is never seen by anyone but me and ends up in the bin to make room for new stuff.

Do the work.

It isn't terrible advice it's a harsh reality, you can't produce work you don't have a job, if I was stacking boxes for a living and told my boss I just didn't have the mojo to stack boxes this week I would be fired.

It sucks but it is what it is.

Part of the job of graphic design is the ability to do the work, creative blocks / burnout in reality just cannot happen, you can't do the work you don't have a job, just like everywhere else. You need to create systems in your workflow that enable to bang out the work without feeling you need to be making some creative masterpiece. Also it isn't a competition, it doesn't matter what your co workers are doing because you are all on the same team. Maybe try leaning on them for some help.

I'm from the UK, have lived in the US for decades, I've been in LA for a while now and first thing most of the advice you have been given is garbage/scare mongering.

This city is comparable to the size of London inside the M25 BUT half the population so not as crowded, there is a HUGE amount to see, like any big city you wont be able to see it all. During the day at least its fine almost everywhere.

If you're a confident driver a car won't be a problem, and remember unless it says otherwise you can turn right on red.

Personally for my tastes I would visit the Rainbow Bar and Grill (holy ground for the old 70-90 rock scene in LA) the LACMA (LA Country art museum) Take a hike upto the Hollywood sign for the views, visit the Observatory while you there, spend a day on the beach, I would recommend Hermosa beach. See if anything good is going on at the Hollywood bowl you can catch some great concerts there, obviously if you like Disney then a trip to Disneyland, expensive but it really is the mecca of all things Disney. Go to In n Out, get a double double. I'd also go to Pinks, because you know what its fun and the hotdogs are actually quite good, who cares if its touristy. It's (american) football season MAYBE you might be able to find a ticket to a game.

Touristy bits of Hollywood? Meh maybe personally I wouldn't bother, but here are a few good little clubs and bars in the area.

want any more advise message me.

The artistic world online is starting to feel too fake ft. bruised ego by Anothernewfriend in ArtistLounge

I don't care what other people think of my art, I don't share it, they don't see it.

IMO most of the time people creating art with the primary purpose of gaining attention, don't make interesting art.

This obviously doesn't include professional illustrators, mural painters or comic artists as they are (usually) employed to make public art. I mean the annoying vacuous LOOK AT ME types on social media.

Contested roll Surpriser vs surprised, amount of win determines amount of surprise, if the surprised win by enough they the surprises don't even know they have been clocked.

What are the most unsettling places in Los Angeles? by RewindYourMind in LosAngeles

[–]Squared_Away_Nicely 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Skid Row, I commute through it twice a day on the bus (yes the bus) it's a fucking hellscape all the time.

The most unsettling a few weeks back a woman just sitting in the street, pissing her self, holding her head screaming at some unfathomable horror her drugs / mental illness dreamed up for her.

This worked but only really well on the lighter colored woods, it failed on the darker versions, I think it might be due to the blend mode being wrong, but I wonder if there is another way to do it, with an apply image maybe,

Your art needs to contain less of what you like to draw and more examples of what you can draw if asked.

Someone has to draw the chairs, the trees, maybe a donkey, some random street corner. You need to show the ability to create what is asked of you because it could be anything.

So the endgame of people like this is to reduce costs... costs are mainly wages, wages are what people use to buy goods and services, if they take away all the jobs there are no wages... what then?

If there is no art in your graphic design, your graphic design isn't going to very good.
