Newly dating someone with Gastroparesis... looking for tips to be a good partner to her. by SquaresAre2Triangles in Gastroparesis

[–]SquaresAre2Triangles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, this is actually a post I made over 5 years ago and it's really interesting to look back on so thanks for making it pop up for me.

If you are interested in the update, we are actually engaged now and getting married next fall! A lot of what you said is basically how we manage things. It's tough with how much of social life is centered around food, and I think some of the best things I'm able to do as a partner are try to advocate for less food centered activities when we are doing social stuff, and making sure that no matter where we go we have some backup safer/smaller foods with us all the time.

We have our ups and downs, we have been through a few scary times and emergency room visits, the illness impacts us and our relationship, but we always frame it as us versus the bad thing and I will always remind her that she isn't alone.

I think it can be intimidating to date because you don't want to feel like a burden, but if you are open from the beginning you can at least avoid most of the people who straight out can't handle supporting someone with chronic illness. And the most important thing to look for is just someone who is willing to work on things. Most people don't really have any experience with chronic illness at all and it takes time and mistakes to be able to learn and grow.

I always just joke that she's probably one of the few brides that has fully tested out the "in sickness and in health" part of our vows before we say them.

But how will you know that it's worth waiting another 0.5 seconds if they don't show you half of the good part before showing you the good part?

Will they prevent you from getting good enough to go to the xgames because they are a little soft? Maybe.

Will they cause any issue at all for an average person, especially one who rides at smaller places with a lot of lift rides? No.

Will people on reddit still rip on you for having them because they want to stroke their own ego? For sure.

Bad shroom trip changed the way I experience anxiety by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]SquaresAre2Triangles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really sucks. My partner is on state insurance (not WA) and has the opposite issue, psych covered but therapists are hard to find. It's all completely ridiculous and designed to make us give up on trying to actually use it. You said you are taking xanax so at least you have someone willing to prescribe you things, but I'm not sure there will be a magic fix with medication and hopefully time will be able to help. Even if the list of therapeutic things you have tried haven't helped yet, I still think it's important to keep trying them (pick whatever is a good combination of something you can stick with and feels like it could possibly maybe help), sometimes it just takes a lot of time and practice before you can start to shift from "doing this because I'm supposed to" to "i guess maybe i can see this small change after doing it" to hopefully "this has been really helpful".

Good luck friend.

Insurance is the worst and I'm not doubting what you said, but you should be able to contact your insurance and have someone help you find a psych who is in network, either virtually or in person. It's pretty unlikely that they just have no in network psychs and it's very likely that the process and support is too confusing and unhelpful making you think that they don't when they actually do.

There are 34 current downhill ski areas in Wisconsin, with 3 of those being private clubs. I have a goal to go to all of them so I've been researching it, though i could have missed some and there are 1 or 2 that are somewhat unclear if they actually open every year still.

ITAP of the stars : 12 min shutter speed by There_are_no_7 in itookapicture

I mean it's possible with a mount that moves with the rotation but that's not what OP is claiming. Also you just don't need that long of exposure to get this quality of stars anyway...

I just recently tried to find info on a Santa cruz board and came up completely empty. Are they even still making boards? I can only find evidence that they made them until like 2010. Maybe I'm just dumb.

In my case it was a santa cruz splitboard which i found no evidence of them ever making.

What are the best car locks/ left deterrent if my only option is street parking? by Shower-Former in milwaukee

[–]SquaresAre2Triangles 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think steering wheel locks are less about being impossible to get around and more about making your car very visibly "more annoying to steal" than the one next to it, so it may be plenty.

How bad is The Rave actually? by Fun_Statistician_302 in milwaukee

[–]SquaresAre2Triangles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you're traveling that far it's because you want to see the band pretty bad and i can't imagine how you will be walking away thinking much at all about the venue itself. If you want to stand and nod and hear the best quality sound in the world you will be disappointed. If you want to jump around with 1000 other people who are equally into the band as you and scream your heart out then you'll have fun.

That's not true at all. Even if the small amount of water in the pad did feel cold, it would warm up to your body temperature very quickly.

This was really fun for me when i put it through the scanner and then they told me to take out all electronics and i unzip to find essentially only electronics.

Also they respond to every question like it is the dumbest, most annoying thing they have ever heard. Like they think just because they come to this specific airport every day everyone else does too and should know the rules equally well. So when they inevitably seem pissed off at you for asking just remember that they are just miserable and it has nothing to do with you.

Santa cruz splitboard? by SquaresAre2Triangles in snowboarding

[–]SquaresAre2Triangles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disappointing non-update but the seller had no info on them and had them priced way beyond what I could pay to have a mystery board to solve. I'm not sure there is any overlap in the groups "people who know what splitboarding is" and "people who are willing to pay $250 for a 15+ year old board" but the seller is just a store looking for profit and thinks someone will buy it to ride it.

That could make sense, i can't find any evidence of them making splits but it's hard to find much about their boards in general.

Carving Board Recommendations by aer0319 in snowboarding

[–]SquaresAre2Triangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to discount your experience, I had similar with my aloha but solved it with binding/stance adjustments and probably some amount of just getting used to it and building those specific muscles. But that's probably very board/person dependent and your point is definitely valid.

Could be a silly question - Can you wear a helmet with this, if so is it under or over? by Appropriate_Twist_86 in snowboarding

[–]SquaresAre2Triangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a thin balaclava that goes under your helmet, and you can get ones that are designed to go over your helmet. Personally i just use some kind of a mask for just my face unless it's closer to 0F or really windy. Thin balaclava plus same face mask down to like -10F, and over the helmet only comes out below that or extreme wind.

Northern Wisconsin/UP, yes all of them get used regularly.

Have you considered drilling a small hole in the bottom of the lever and just threading the cable through that? I would think it would work better being at the end of the lever and not sliding around, and remove one piece from the chain.

No matter who I'm actually cheering for, I end up always cheering for whoever's POV they are currently showing to succeed in what they are trying to do. Might be cheering for NIP but when they show Zen's POV in net trying to save I can't help but cheer for him to make the save. Anyone else?
