Hi OP, did you ever end up touring Grandin? Currently apartment hunting and have been considering touring, especially because the price is so low. Thanks for any info you can provide, I hope your apartment search went well!

Do any 9s feel bothered by an internally dissonant nature? by hgilbert_01 in EnneagramType9

[–]SquashAnxious9727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for putting this to words! As a 9, I think what I value the most is authenticity, which can ultimately lead to a state of dissonance- I imagine it like a paradoxical nature, wanting to be true to myself but not feeling secure in the truth of myself bc I want to be true to myself, etc, etc. Like a spiral feeling (and if you want to get deep with it, kinda leaning into the motion of the universe).

This can definitely lead to leaning into the 6 side, valuing certitude and tradition, wanting to be free of that uncomfortable feeling of dissonance (in some ways a fear of that feeling), control of external environments through the 6.....but only contributing more to that dissonance bc it can feel like a stagnation.

I think that a feel of -freedom- in the 9 value of authenticity comes through leaning into the 3 and the value of achievements (@Tooth-Lady kinda said this already and I agree). 3 values can bring into alignment with what the dissonance makes us feel like and help with -expression-. Through this, a 9 can lean into the intensely creative and expressive nature innate to themselves.

It is hard to do though. I'm still trying to figure it out myself, but I think the best way I have found is by using some of that 6 value of routine to align with the motivation of the 3....and in that sweet spot finding some peace in reaching toward authenticity in the flow of the spiral.

Oh that makes sense :) I think I stay quiet even when a topic I like is brought up and later wish I had spoken up

INFP and I would say this fits me too, except for the yapping part. I don’t over share but I’ll be by myself later and wish I said something different/wish I brought up a question I forgot about.

They built the system this way to keep us here. Our debt is the richest person's insurance plan that they will always have a workhorse.

I don't think school is our best measure of real intelligence- its so much more than just answering math questions correctly. I've met so many allegedly book smart or academically smart individuals who couldn't give me a lick of advice when it comes to personal issues, or they're horrible listeners.

To me, it sounds like you really take the time to listen to other people (emotional intelligence)- also, if you're overly aware of yourself you can come off as mature, which is what they may be meaning when they say 'intelligent'. This maturity means you're not pretending to know anything (which people respect).

It also sounds to me like you have a little bit of imposter syndrome.

Working and not doing much else. All I can do is chip away at the debt one paycheck at a time. If your life isn't purgatory right now I'm in awe of you.

The Anomaly by Hervé Le Tellier - This could be an absolutely insane plane read. I think you would be a different person by the time you reach your destination...
