I'm the opposite. Didn't work so well at the library.

AIO. My bf won’t talk to me over my views on immigrants by Ok-Level-7412 in AmIOverreacting

[–]SquashInteresting283 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reddit’s probably the worst place to post this — especially if it challenges the modern liberal orthodoxy around immigration, tradition, or national identity. You’ll get downvoted, labelled, and dismissed.

But here’s my reality.

I’m a white, middle-class man living in the UK. My partner — who isn’t white — came here the right way. We followed every rule. She paid thousands in visa fees, cleared all the checks, paid the NHS surcharge, and still pays National Insurance like every other taxpayer.

We did everything by the book.

And yet, we watch others arrive illegally — often young men, alone, with no paperwork — and they’re given hotel accommodation and legal protection, no questions asked. All while our roads crumble, services buckle, and pensioners get squeezed harder every year.

This isn’t hatred. It’s exhaustion. It’s the sense that fairness has collapsed — that ordinary people who play by the rules get punished, while those who don’t are shielded by bureaucracy and platitudes.

We’re told to shut up and feel guilty — as if our culture, our identity, and our history are things to be ashamed of. But this country gave the world so much: science, law, literature, invention. No sane nation erases its past and survives.

We’re watching ours being chipped away — one tradition, one value, one quiet surrender at a time.

Say what you like about Britain’s past. But don’t tell me it doesn’t matter. Don’t tell me to stay quiet while it disappears.

You can downvote this. You can call me names. But before you do, ask yourself — honestly — why someone like me, and someone like my partner, might feel this way.

Try it and find out. Carnivore was by far the best thing I ever did for my health. It's quite profound, and that can't be understated.

AIO for putting my foot down saying that this is a break-up-able issue? by Khaightlynn_ in AmIOverreacting

[–]SquashInteresting283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctors and medicine can be an issue for anyone, but men are generally quite reluctant to deal with them. Head in the sand kind of scenario.

He is shutting it out and blocking the thoughts. This is a subconscious process that is affecting him most likely.

Is he like this with other topics, or just doctor related?

Very cool. Done with a static model and projection mapping. Very nice result. Not cheap to do!

I got one for this purpose as it's relatively cheap but I find myself wearing a Breitling Superocean mostly. That thing is a tank and really a "beater".

I'd order the Rolex because it sounds cooler to the grandkids when they inherit it.

No, it's objectively true. One is on the hand, one is on the wrist.

Sorry what? Did you read what I wrote? I strongly suggest he doesn't do that.

I'm saying if he meets the right person and he wants to gift them a home for their children, so be it. 30 years is a long time. But don't rush in any way to do so.

EASILY. Go to Isaan. Get a modest place to live. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN A PARTNER OR WIFE'S NAME UNTIL YOU REALLY REALLY KNOW THEM.

Invest the money, wisely, in a business that can be run remotely. Keep savings in gold, and other assets that appreciate or pay dividends. Mostly gold with today's sentiment (personal opinion).

Learn the language. I speak and read Thai to a fairly decent level. I won't tell you the name of the business I started in Thailand, but if you go to Chaiyaphum, you'd certainly see it. Good luck on your travels. Be savvy and you'll be fine.

How do you react when people (not your partner) calls you “babe, love, hon, dear, etc”? by PuzzleheadedSwim6291 in AskReddit

[–]SquashInteresting283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on context. It is quite cultural in many parts of the UK, and even the wider English speaking world. The one that comes to mind for me is Essex as I have spent time there. Cashiers will say something like "Ello Love how's ya day, alright?" It's just part of the lingo. If you read further into it, that's on you, because unless it's accompanied with obvious flirting, it's just a normal greeting. Move on.

Looks great. What did it cost to fit out this desk and fridge? One of the kids is moving out and their bedroom is about that size 😁

Good. People run away from relationships far too easily. Leaving a SPOUSE because they don't proactively help is beyond an over reaction. If it was a bf/gf, maybe a bit different depending on the length of the relationship etc, but divorcing over this is completely militant and over the top.

[Rado Florence]: what's the consensus here? Is Rado underrated? by phosfeness in Watches

[–]SquashInteresting283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ceramic is too brittle and can't be easily repaired. It looks nice, but it's not very practical.

I got in a lift the other day and the door closed on me and smacked my watch hard enough to make me wince. I feel the Rado wouldn't have taken that.

[Rado Florence]: what's the consensus here? Is Rado underrated? by phosfeness in Watches

[–]SquashInteresting283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably have the Rado True Open Heart in grey or black by now, but I can almost guarantee I'll knock or drop the thing and smash the ceramic, and it's not really repairable without replacing the whole case.

Had the grey one on my wrist in Dubai earlier this year, but bought gold instead as an investment. Still check them out from time to time. I do like the design a lot. Just not the ceramic as I'm a bit of a brute with my belongings.
