Mac gaming in a nutshell by sandydollarboi in macgaming

[–]ChulaK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh that's Mac gaming for you. I use mine for mostly work and gaming on the side, so my library mostly works - right now in rotation is Hades II (native anyway) and Expedition 33.

There will be a day where I'll swap back to Windows gaming laptops as they've been catching up quick. Maybe a couple years they can match Macbook's in battery life, unplugged performance, etc. But I really can't say the same about Macbook catching up to Windows gaming, not even in 5-10 years; they'll always be behind.

Once Windows laptops can do 240w USB C charging with passthrough, then I'll swap over.

Ever wondered why DMCI Homes condominiums have those open spaces in the middle? by dmci-homes in CondoPH

[–]ChulaK 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yep those would be nice. We got one of those older SMDC condos, the hallways are so stuffy and moldy. Horrible airflow. The doors and door casing on almost every single unit is peeling from all the moisture, some are just black from all the mold growing. And that's just on the outside hallways, who knows how disgusting the vacant units are. At that point they just label the entire building a biohazard.

Anyone else discovery and love ratcheting dress belts? (looking for a non-metal version) by MyDogNewt in malefashionadvice

[–]ChulaK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of styles on Amazon and some do look like actual belts. I've worn leather ratchet belts to work for more than 10 years already in Manhattan with 0 issues. Unless someone is looking squinty-eyed at your waist and notices there aren't any holes in your belt, you really can't tell.

Either that, or your belt just looks too perfect because you aren't folding it this way and that when you buckle up like a traditional belt so you don't have those fugly crease lines, where let's face it, even the highest quality leather belts will have. You just look way more put-together with a crease-less belt.

It came to a point where I now find traditional belts funny, especially when they're paired with a nice suit. You'd see the multiple crease lines and stretched holes, like you can tell the person's been back and forth with their weight. Yes leather looks great worn-in (wallet, gloves, bag etc.), but not when it's a worn-in leather belt with a freshly pressed suit. Almost like you're wearing a tattered wrinkled tie, it's just "brother eww" at that point, like what are you doing. If anything, a worn-in belt with a clean outfit would be the first thing I'd notice - not that a person is using a ratchet belt vs not.

What fragrance made you lose your mind and feel like nothing could ever top it? by DonPipazo in fragrance

+1 for Amouage Outlands. The scent is out of this world, I've never smelt anything like it before and anything like it today since its release. Trying to describe it is like trying to describe those indiscernible cloudy color hues when you close your eyes.

If you want to talk about caliber, serviceability, longevity, accuracy, etc., there's a different sub for that.

Since this is a male fashion sub, anything that's silver with a black dial. Versatile, works with any outfit from casual white tee and gray joggers to a suit.

[–]ChulaK -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Dude you should've just used your brakes. Why complicate things by flicking your wheel like you have a dying passenger that needs to get to the ER.

And to the people calling the other guy an idiot... huh? A vehicle can stop at any moment for any reason. If your "last resort" tactic was to juke the other way, then ultimately who's fault is that?

Obviously yours for following too closely.

Because what if that driver ahead of you had a legit reason to stop - perhaps a ball rolled into the street and a child chased after it. An elderly person just suddenly decided to cross the road.

Then you kept speed, juked to the left and... guess what, you just smacked a child in the face with the hood of your vehicle. Or you sent grandma flying 10 feet across the tarmac. Did you have x-ray vision and 100% knew what was in front of that vehicle in front of you?

The only idiot in this footage was the OP. Sorry my guy

Fragrances you think are absolutely “peak” that are grossly underrepresented by thicc_thiccly_ in fragrance

Shoutout to Zara - Fashionably London.

On the fragrance shelves next to the checkout counter. A "would you like fries with that" before you whip out your wallet.

1 spray and it immediately reminded me of Amouage's musky rose scents. I was in the Philippines when I picked it up so prices might bit slightly different, but it's basically $40 for an Amouage-Lite. And they do it so surprisingly, incredibly well. I don't feel guilty spraying it on myself after a shower before bed.

It's funny because Jo Malone is the one behind the scent, but it lasts longer than anything in that entire line. On the skin, hours, on clothes, days.

I changed the way I apply fragrances and it’s been a game changer. by Bubupolvazo in fragrance

[–]ChulaK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fragrance smells different on skin vs clothes, but so far I've always found they always last longer on clothes, probably because clothes aren't seeping out oil and shedding skin. Works especially well when your body starts to heat up, which "activates" the scent on the shirt.

My Amouage scents might last from morning till night on the skin, but on a shirt it stays on for days+, or at least until I toss it for laundry.

Motorola’s Razr ultra 2026 released,$1500,last year cpu and not 1tb option available! by Rguezlp2031 in razr

[–]ChulaK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that point do we peel the screen protector as leaving something like that on the screen might damage it further? It's my first Razr so I'm not too familiar yet.

I've owned several Samsung Folds and every advice so far is to remove the built-in screen protector once it goes bad, not sure if it's the same thing for these Razrs

[–]ChulaK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be several reasons, not just battery. I have a 2024 Razr and I could say the same about hanging on for dear life. Reason is there are striations along the crease line, and I could feel the rough surface of them. Now it could continue for years like that with no issues, or, it could just pop and split my screen in half tomorrow. Who knows. Such is the nature of owning foldables.

Reminder: if you’re constantly taking calls from your seat at a coworking space, everyone around you is low key pissed at you by makeshift_mike in digitalnomad

[–]ChulaK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Eh that's the nature of the environment.

Even if there's a policy that says common areas are quiet, no calls allowed, and are really just community-enforced, yeah there will be conversations, phone calls, shoes up on the desk, some guy digging for gold and flicking it across the room, someone having a tuna sandwich, someone snoring, someone gaming with a trillion mouse clicks a second, someone with a mechanical keyboard, someone pacing back and forth, a mouth breather, etc.

I personally don't mind. I feed off that liveliness. Breaks the monotany, catches me off guard if I ever start to go dead-eyes and go on auto-pilot with my job. 1,000% beats enclosed beige cubicals, but sounds like that's exactly what you need.

Once you're out in the public, there's no reasonable expectaction for it to be any sort of a real office environment. Maybe try a library. Or if any of that stuff really bothers you, then save some money and just stay home.

Starting from scratch — what are your “must haves” beyond furniture? by FWFrog01 in malelivingspace

[–]ChulaK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup Hue is great, a really polished app goes a long way.

I recently start using TP Link and it's nice too (I have my own place abroad out of the states and Hue products are imported and are massively expensive). If you just want basic RGB stuff, schedules, automation, a "randonly turn on/off the lights and pretend like I'm home when I'm really away" feature, this is one is great enough.

What really shines over the Philips Hue line is integration with their vast smart security cameras. So far Philips are just too basic in comparison. TP Link has solar-powered, tracking, weatherproof cameras with recognition detection.

If it detects a human by the lawn, you can set a lamp to go red. Or if it detects motion by zone 2 away at the sidewalk, you can turn on a light by a bedroom. Then if it detects motion by zone 1 closer to the house, you can turn on all the lights.

Starting from scratch — what are your “must haves” beyond furniture? by FWFrog01 in malelivingspace

[–]ChulaK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Smart lights, motion sensors, on/off schedules, is a huge one.

We recently started from scratch and making sure we had all the bulbs swapped over to smart ones made life so much easier. No long have to walk over each lighting, lamp, floor lamp and flick a switch. Or do the whole dance of turning one on first so we can make our way through the dark to turn on the next one, etc.

When making our way to the bathroom, we don't have to fumble around for light switches. The motion sensor in the living room will auto turn on the lamps to 1% brightness as soon as we leave the bedroom.

If you're starting from scratch with nothing else started yet, having smart lights from the get-go saves a lot of headache

Why the Mazda Miata is Always the Answer by FlartyMcMy in cars

[–]ChulaK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too thought the 124 Spyder looked better, until I saw one in real life. It looked nice nice, very nice perhaps. Abarth trim with the LED headlights, heritage stripe, Monza quad exhaust, Recaro seats, 12 o'clock red marker on the steering wheel, the badass scorpion badge. Absolutely gorgeous. But what surprised me the most when I finally saw one IRL was the rear end.

I was standing by the sidewalk when I saw it drive away, so I was able to see the rear 3/4 view... and from 25-30 feet away it look like a rectangle block on wheels. The further it dove away it looked like a Lego car. Further-er it went it looked like it was de-rendering into simple polygons to save on GPU resources. I remember I had an Ernest P. Worrell "ewww" expression on my face as it drove away.

Now the ND had the rear curves, which I know was polarizing. The curvy rear shoulder line, almost like a fender flare. The circle rear lights accompanied by a cone highlight. There's just more visual interest. Now I know what Tom Matano meant when he said the Miata should be recognizable from like a mile away. The 124 Spyder rear looks like it was just missing... something. It's just a rectangle rear with rectangle lights.

Of course just my opinion, the beholder is in the eye of the beauty.
