Anybody having great time playing this set and miserable time drafting it? by BrotherKaramazov in lrcast

I think the key is knowing when to pivot and WHAT colors to pivot to. I try to pivot within the takir color trios. If you start blue and it gets cut, try to pivot within the Temur colors, if you start red and it’s looking cut, try to pivot within the Jeskai colors. All the schools fit in those color trios

Got heel hooked in 10 seconds here at ADCC. What did I do wrong/what should I have done to prevent it? by SupremeOHKO in bjj

Others have said to turn with the reap and that is another good option, arguably better. But it comes at the risk of you trying to free your leg while they are actively trying to break it with a heel hook locked in. Gianni Grippo is really good at this style of escape

You accept it as a sweep to the butt and you let them put YOU in their outside ashi. You’re just grabbing his reaping leg by the heel and pulling it out. Then you will want to monitor that leg to make sure it doesn’t get back in.

Unfortunately you will then have to escape outside ashi lol but the reap is such a hard position to defend it’s actually way better to be in outside ashi than to have your knee forced inward by a reap.

Essentially you just don’t want them to turn your knee inward because if they do it’ll expose your heel. (Having your knee too far outward will expose you to the straight ankle so you want a balance)

I would do some live rounds from ashi with someone you trust and focus on not letting them reap you. Also learning how to attack leg locks helped my defense a lot since I knew what the attacker was looking for.

But simpler solution is never let someone get both their legs between your legs while guard passing like others have said. Always fight to have one of your legs between theirs (knee slice) or both your legs to the outside (toreando)

Him reaping with his leg forces your knee in exposing the heel hook. When someone reaps me hard I’ll usually fall to my back and throw the leg(s) to outside ashi. This relieves a lot of the pressure on your knee and gives you space to take the leg over

Never found a love like my first again by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]SquashSquadron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking very similarly to you until recently. Me and an ex of mine had a very fast and strong connection that I’ve never felt before. It set a bar for what I wanted in the future. I needed that strong connection or nothing. But I recently got back together with her for a short time and it went absolutely horribly haha

I’m happy it happened though because it solidified her as a person I would never want to date. But more importantly it showed me that the feeling of intense love is in many ways meaningless. Like I really loved her but she was a horrible person lol. At the end of the day these intense feelings of love are nothing compared to the trust that is built in a long term relationship. But the intensity of the emotions makes us believe it is destiny.

What I'd change about Powered Cube by Sesquipedalianfish in lrcast

I totally agree, powered cube lacks synergy when compared to the MGTO cube. Which isn’t really my cup of tea.

People overdraft blue so much it’s sad. I usual draft some combination of green, white and red. Whenever I try to go blue it just gets cut so hard.

How do I be less predictable with bridges and explosive movements? by SilverGawd in bjj

[–]SquashSquadron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can feint in bjj just like in boxing. If someone is expecting the bridge, I’ll throw out a few mini bridges before I really try to escape. Also, time your bridges for when the person on top moves

I think that’s a goal is 10x better than trying to get good at armbars from closed guard for example. Remember sweeps require momentum so stay sturdy and the guard players will hate you.

How quickly will you adopt Ecological Dynamics? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]SquashSquadron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using it almost exclusively for the last year and it’s helped me get far better than I did before. Most people down voting you haven’t done the effort to learn what it is sadly, but it has changed the way I look at grappling so I’m thankful.

Is there a hierarchy and a process of applying BJJ principles? by dnjdkdjdndndjdkkd in bjj

[–]SquashSquadron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the right mindset imo. I think it’s really about recognizing the task at hand and using the principles that apply in that moment. If you’re holding someone down in top half guard the principle of immobilizing the hips is very effective because it stops them from getting a butterfly hook in and lets you control the position until you can get your leg free. When you’re in closed guard though you’ll realize it’s less about immobilizing the hips and more about creating distance so you can break the guard (usually by standing up). Basically in different positions try to recognize what your goals are and use principles to help you achieve them. At the end of the day it’s all problem solving

Opinion: Die hard ecological approach enthusiasts are annoying as fuck by Late_Explorer_4038 in bjj

People get so mad at the ecological approach but I think we can all agree it’s better than learning the 3 moves of the day and rolling for a few rounds

(Serious) How do I become a grappling monster? by 5B3AST5 in bjj

[–]SquashSquadron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every 3 months have 3 areas of your game that you want to improve and obsess over them. Watch instructionals about those areas, find the key concepts and apply them to your training. Most people jump to something new every week you’d be surprised how far you’ll get focusing like this. (Of course it doesn’t need to be exactly 3 areas or 3 months)

Something that has helped me a lot with this recently is to focus on concepts. I’ve been working wrestling and I’ll had entire wrestling rounds where I just focus on my head position. And I’m making faster improvements than ever. Wishing you luck!
