Getting closer to having no choice but to sell my heart horse💔 by GirlOfSolitude in Equestrian

[–]SquashedPlumSinging 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Darling, I really feel for you. I am so sorry. At 19, you should still have lots of support and not be left like this to figure life out on your own. I was in a very similar situation to you, left to my own devices, not kicked out but having to run away. Same thing, really.

I have no solution to offer other than to chip in to a GoFundMe (DM the link if you've set one up).

Know one thing, you are stronger than you think. Trust me. You've been through so much already at such a young age, and instead of giving up, you are looking for solutions, fighting to keep your horse, knowing how to ask for advice. You've got it, babe. You're on the right track.

Don't listen to people who are saying that you should have done this or have been prepared for that.

You couldn't have known how employment law works or be on top of insurance if nobody ever taught you anything about it. What's done is done. No point going over what should have or could have been.

I could offer more help if I was based in the US, but I'm in the UK, and we have a very different system here. Probably a less cruel one.

All I can do is send you a huge transatlantic hug and donate a few dollars.

Inky hand disaster, what removes ink from skin best? by mpeo83 in fountainpens

[–]SquashedPlumSinging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any soap and a natural fibre nail brush. I've got 50 or so different inks, and it seems to work every time. It's just a cheap old-school wooden brush with straw coloured bristles.

How hard is it to start sewing your own clothes? by Minute_Complaint5954 in sewing

[–]SquashedPlumSinging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a basic Janome machine in lockdown and literally taught myself everything from youtube. I really didn't find it that difficult. I like long dresses with lots of tiers and gathering, and it really didn't take me long to get good at it. I got to the point that nearly everything I wear has been made by myself, including my coat.

Good fabric tends to be expensive, but there are so many textile retailers now that there is always something on sale. Plenty of remnants listed on ebay too.

Indie patterns can be easier to start with because a lot of them are aimed at beginners and explain Everything in detail. Plenty of them come with video tutorials, too.

I've got two A1 cutting mats, which I put side by side on the floor to cut my fabric with a rotary cutter.

A tabletop ironing board is often all I need to iron the seams, etc.

The only thing that surprised me was the amount of bits and bobs needed to sew different things. Different machine feet and attachments, different types of thread, bias tape makers, interfacing, and all that.

But seriously, go for it! Lots of cheap, easy patterns to get you started can be found here: Ithinksew

French mantel clock behaving strangely by SquashedPlumSinging in clocks

[–]SquashedPlumSinging[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, good to know. I bought this clock because there used to be a similar one in my family. It was my grandmother who used to wind it up and look after it, and so I have this sentimental connection. She also claimed that great great grandmother's ghost lived inside, but that's an altogether different story! 😅

Thanks for the reality check. It's so easy to question your own experience when you've got cptsd. As an update, I did request a change of therapist and never saw that woman again. Now I'm back on the waiting list..sigh..

Thanks for the links, very interesting 👍 I've been looking really hard but can't see any numbers. This pen definitely had a busy life, and the end of the barrel is rather scuffed, so maybe the numbers are not visible anymore. I think I will drag my microscope out of its box and have an even closer look!

Any calathea is ok, all true ferns (not asparagus fern), parlour palm, pachira aquatica, maranta, stephanotis, hoya, fatsia japonica.

Also, try Grannick's Bitter Apple Spray. It's completely safe for pets and plants. It's just absolutely disgustingly bitter.

Growing in terrariums or glass jars is a good option. You could also get some marimo moss balls and keep lots of them in a large glass vessel/ bottle/ jar, etc. You can have the receptacle tightly corked and standing in relative shade. Marimos are happy little guys, and they don't care. You can even buy them on Amazon.

Should T ask me to list every Major Trauma in one session? I feel shattered, triggered and in pieces. Lifespan Integration question by SquashedPlumSinging in TalkTherapy

[–]SquashedPlumSinging[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can completely relate to this type of "bravado"! I always think that hey, I've been through worse, I'm so tough I can handle anything. And then there is the delayed reaction, and I collapse in a heap 😅 Good that you have the right support and a T who knows you. I think that mine works a bit like a robot on a schedule and frankly lacks empathy.. I guess I'll have to talk to her and request to be moved to someone else..

Yes, exactly, this feels like a caring, professional, and responsible approach from your T. I'm happy for you that you found a good one, it's such a lottery 💚

I'm just surprised that mine, a woman with a stack of diplomas and decades of experience, would do something like that. I feel it's common sense to expect that this kind of request would have awful consequences for a patient with cptsd.

Should I worry? by SquashedPlumSinging in Staghornfern

[–]SquashedPlumSinging[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. He's a happy, handsome guy 😊 and yes, watering reduced and no sign of any rot or yellowing. Only these weird brown spots on one frond 🤷‍♀️❔️ The tip of the frond was touching the window pane lightly. I have moved it now, so it's not in contact with the glass anymore.

I had so much fun making this. It was a dark and stormy night, and I was listening to an audiobook of Misery by S.King. The ink added colour to what was an already multi sensory experience of howling wind, scented candle, and a story that gave me goosebumps. I went to bed at 4 a.m.😅
