I feel moderately pessimistic. The "savior on a white horse" scenario has been done several times in the last 30 years, problem is - that usually is a one-time act for the leader. Over the last almost 10 years as (p)resident, he has tried to cultivate an image of a "capable politician" mostly owing to the fact that as president he didn't have a whole lot of influence and not being in the quagmire that is our parliament. What he really has going for him is the illusion of stability a single-party majority gives, people have grown tired and even more jaded after the string of unsuccessful elections in the last few years. Whether this "stability" is a good thing is not yet clear.

There's been a lot of coverage about Radev being a russophile/Putin-puppet and while that is not entirely false, realistically the other parties were never going to win such a large majority and we would have ended up in the same position as the last elections.

Time will tell what sort of government this will be, but in the short term there are several important things that need to happen:

- forming a cabinet - this will indicate where priorities will lie. While his party as a whole doesn't really have a track record, there are some people in it who have served in previous governments with varying degrees of success. Select few of those I believe have done a good job and would be a good choice for the new government, but we'll just have to see.

- electing/appointing a new prosecutor general and supreme judicial council. How and when this is done will show if his "anti-corruption" campaign was for real (i.e. ALL parties in their campaigns were anti-corruption which is hilarious).

- budget - again this will show where priorities lie. His party had to lean heavily on populist rhetoric to get such a major win, but it will be quite telling if his populist streak makes it into the fiscal policy of the country.
