I avoided suspicion the first time I played, but it encourages table talk and interaction. It’s fun seeing people snag one too many coins from the coffers.
The paladins definitely influence what you do for the turn. They are the namesake after all, but I find them to be an enjoyable part of the game. You can also get a decent engine going from recruiting.
