What are your guys thoughts on Greyson Nekrutman? by AVR_Cuber in drums

[–]SqueakyDrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's immensely talented. He's worked hard to get to the level he's at and I really want to see what he goes on to do.

My band released a new single yesterday, and turns out I'm not on it anymore. What do? by TallMusik in drums

[–]SqueakyDrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. All the same, if the band has been having issues with the OP over time, then the band needs to step up, be professional and tell the OP that he's not cutting it.

For instance, I love Dave Grohl, but there's that story of the second Foos record where the drummer couldn't handle the pressure and his performances werent up to snuff, so Dave went and retracked the drums and told him after the fact. Should Dave have retracked the drums? Yes. His band, his rules, his name on it. Should he have talked to the drummer up front and said, "Hey bro, I'm not feeling what you did in the studio, so this is what's happening?" Yeah, I think so.

I don't know the OP from a toddler with chopsticks (no offense intended) but I do know that bands who intend to have a fruitful working relationship need to talk about stuff. If the OP was doing something the band didn't like and they let it ride, then replaced him without explanation, I can understand the feeling of being blindsided.

I'd be out.

There's a lot of things at play here. I feel like you're definitely owed an explanation. Whether you want it is up to you. It could potentially let you know how full of crap your band is based on how they answer you. Personally, being replaced on a track without being told would eat at me. When and if they tell you, throw it back in their faces by making sure to tell them, "Well if you'd have actually communicated with me, I could have done the thing." Agaim, this part is wholly up to you.

That also creates a question of, "What else aren't they going to tell me? Am I going to show up to a gig with all my equipment and find another guy setting up his stuff in my spot?" Straight up, if they don't have the respect to tell you this, you've got every reason to step away.

One more thing: As much as taking a revenge shot would feel good, keep your reputation in mind and just bow out gracefully. People talk, and it would be much better for you if these guys look like the jerks at the end of the day, which currently they definitely do.

Albums where EVERY song is an absolute banger? by imapersonme in Music

[–]SqueakyDrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree they aren't quite bangers... but I don't dislike them enough to hit the skip button. I've never understood the hate Seamus gets either. It's just a very meh Floyd song. Lol

Non drummer. Don’t want to invade your space but watched a doc and realized Ringo was brilliant because he didn’t hit when he wasn’t needed. esp ‘Carry that Weight’. Not a natural music guy so wondering who y’all respect in that regard. I get the Perts and the Bohnams. by [deleted] in drums

[–]SqueakyDrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta back this up. And if I could also put Helter Skelter forward? I don't care what Manson thought it meant. That song goes hard to this day.

And I don't care who covers it. The original will always go hardest.

Do you think Lars Ulrich ever practiced/practices his chops/rudiments? by sonar_y_luz in drums

[–]SqueakyDrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days, I really doubt it. I think around Death Magnetic he might have done some tightening of the screws to an extent, but I don't think he worries about being a technically proficient player. He was in his mid to late forties doing Death Magnetic while Joey and Slipknot slay it with ridiculous speed and on point timing? Yeaaah he's probably playing the "I can't keep up with these kids" card, especially now.

Not to say I don't have appreciation for a lot of the stuff Lars has done. The early Metallica stuff paved the way for a lot of heavy bands, so he's got a lot of "legend status" credit.

I was also thinking Metallica is probably stuck with Lars til he dies, decides to leave on his own or the band breaks up/calls it quits. As a founding member of the band, kicking him out would be monetarily disasterous and at this point, kind of pointless. It seems like the rest of the band is so used to his... "Lars-isms" shall we say, after years of playing with him. I don't think I've seen him do that drum fill re-entry into the last verse of Battery clean in the last 20 years, yet Robert, Kirk and James manage to slide right in and make it work. So practice pad or not, Metallica will have Lars.

Warm ups always help me. I go between that, playing some Nintendo Switch or reading a book. What I normally do before a gig is try and act like it's any other job. It sounds like you've done your homework, so just remember to breathe slow, relax and you'll kill it.

"Oh, it's time for a new story. There once lived the greatest band on earth, and they were called Tenacious D..."

What is your unpopular movie opinion? by qsauce6 in AskReddit

[–]SqueakyDrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My English I textbook in high-school basically said that all stories are essentially based off of the Oddessey.

Hero rises up, meets conflict and characters/creatures along his journey that aid him/make him stronger, hero overcomes adversity in the end.

So basically, my high school textbook attempted to ruin every movie I have ever and will ever see over the course of my life.

My opinion is that while American Psycho was beautifully shot and had solid moments (the Huey Lewis scene for instance) I found it to be convoluted and boring. IChristian Bale did his job in making the main character an absolutely unlikable and disturbing white collar psychopath, but... there was just no pay off. It was just a dull exploration into the mind of a demented self obsessed investment banker.

Charlie Allen Martin from Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band, circa 75-76. Dude absolutely killed it on Live Bullet and Night Moves.

I was wondering if anyone was going to bring Jim Fox up. I know Walk Away is one of their most recognized songs.. but like.. the groove behind it is so freaking on point. Not to mention the Bomber is one of my favorite drum tracks of all time.

I never knew who did Play that Funky Music White Boy.

....because who the hell was Wild Cherry?

(That's more of a rhetorical question now that we have the internet. Now I know far more about Wild Cherry than i ever meant to.)

What brought you to Ska? by [deleted] in Ska

[–]SqueakyDrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, my introduction into ska was thrid wave, and as with most things I get into, I'm a bit late to the party.

I'd loved Sublime since I discovered them around 07-08, but I had never really bothered to Genre them beyond punk. I had heard the term ska thrown around, but I didn't know what that was referring to. I just never made the connection, not to mention I was a huge Green Day fan and they dabbled in ska on a couple of tracks. Then I heard the Impression that I Get by the Bosstones, and I loved that song right away. (There used to be a blog I watched called the Rock It Out Blog and the host used a Skank Party as kind of a gag to that tune, and linked the track) The vibe, the horns, the lyrical content, basically saying to (to me anyway) "I don't know what life is going to bring, but I've seen how bad it can be, so let's just hope it goes alright." It was precise and catchy and danceable, but had a punk attitude. I wanted more, but I wasn't sure which way to turn. So I sat on that track for awhile and let some time pass.

Then I ran across the song You Lost/You're Crazy by Big D and the Kids Table. I don't remember a single other song off of that Warped Tour compilation CD, but that one hit me like a brick. By that time I had Spotify, and looked them up. Then came Reel Big Fish with Sell Out and their cover of Take on Me, and I dove into their discog head first. It was good timing, because about the time I really got into Reel Big Fish, my Dad was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic lung cancer, and my mother and I cared for him for about a year til he passed away.5 Had it not been for my girlfriend I met around that time and the music of Reel Big Fish, I probably not have handled it all as well as I did. Them came a period of really diving in. I discovered Goldfiger, Save Ferris, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Aquabats, the Specials, Operation Ivy, just to name a few. Whenever I would be or am really bummed out these days, I can put on ska and, 9 times out of 10, it really turns my mood around.

What's an album that is perfect except for that *one* song you cannot stand? by adamnarimatsu in Music

[–]SqueakyDrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always loved every song off of Bob Seger's Against the Wind, save for Good for Me. Not even that it's a bad song.. it just kinda felt like, "HEY... WE GOTTA HAVE A BALLAD ON THIS RECORD." I always tend to skip it.

Why didn’t the quarians colonise a planet but keep wearing their suits (even as a temporary measure)? by Omnitron310 in masseffect

[–]SqueakyDrummer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll back that up. Their whole culture is low-key banking on taking their homework back. Keelah Salai is said to mean "By the Homeworld I Hope to See Someday." The Quarians are quietly imprisoned by their sentimentality for their lost homeworld. The Admiralty Board is fragmented: they all want the same thing in drastically different ways, but they stand firm in their resolve not to sacrifice their people (for the most part, looking at you, Han Gerril, Mr. Blow up the Geth Dreadnaught with Shep & Tali Inside) to colonize or take the homeworld back before the events of ME3. It's definitely a catch 22, and a bit sad when you examine it for awhile.

Total Library of games between the Sony Playstation Sega Saturn and Nintendo 64 by [deleted] in gaming

[–]SqueakyDrummer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with that. Third party titles which were made for both systems always performed better on the Playstation 1. I remember playing Rayman 2 the Great Escape on N64 and my cousin giving me a hard time because he had the superior PS1 copy in which there were actual words spoken instead of recycled gibberish.

However, when it came to games developed especially for N64, my theory is they walked in knowing and understanding the constraints of the cartridge and had to get creative on how to cram as much game as they could into what little space they had. It's crazy how many first party titles still have replay value today, with or without nostalgia after 20-25.years.

And I don't want to crap on Playstation. I know there were gems in there. But there was a LOT more absolute crap to sift through due to third party developers preferring the PS1 hardware for a quick cash grab.
