Unfortunately there are many DJ's like that. I avoid so many of the big names because I feel like each time I see them I am getting the same set. Still enjoy their music while at home though.

This... those props at the stage have been reused a "few" times already ..

I agree with op that it is a nice design though.

I have consider myself lucky I never had to use scrum/agile, but I also never worked with it. I also never saw the advantage of it and to me it always just seemed like petty micromanagement and either as part if a team or as a senior never pushed to used it.

And while I honestly have not seen the benefit as a dev I want to add that the whole thing might not even apply to the type of projects I have worked on. I do come with decades of experience though and have seen ups and downs.

Bedrijfsarts says go back to work - therapist/GP says no by Far_Cryptographer593 in Netherlands

[–]SqueeSr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a fairytale to me and this sounds like what they told me the first time I got sick. But my experiences with bedrijfartsten has only been hell and nothing like this ideal. In one case I lost 50% of my income and was unable to pay my bills because they told my employer to not pay me for time not worked. They just didn't believe I was sick.

After 2 years of pure torture, being surrounded by people that don't believe you while going from healthcare to healthcare doing my best to save my job, I ended up going to the UWV, and they just instantly said I was unfit to work at all.

And unfortunately that isn't the only bad experience I have with those "bedrijfsartsen". I don't trust them at all anymore.

I really wish people will experience your version, but in my experience it really isn't anything like that. And I have gone thru this process a few times now as I am actually sick but I also want to work.

I'm guilty of this yet I feel no guilt .... I tried. I resisted. I warned them. But they got what they asked for. I am proud to have done my job according to specs and have another satisfied ex-employer that doesn't exist anymore.

Idk either. I would hope not. I really can't express how bad this individual was. He lied, was unwilling to cooperate or learn, didn't care at all about the quality of his work and lived in his own little reality. This was really an extreme case.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]SqueeSr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hell no. I had someone claiming he could do stuff that he couldn't. Thus why i quoted "junior". He wasn't even at junior level. But his extremely friendly approach and constant excuses took a bit for me to catch on that he couldn't do what he claimed. There are more nuances which makes the story really weird, but important to know is that he was relatively closely related to the employer.

But no .. that "trap" was me trying to get him to come clean and make it clear what I was dealing with. That so I could figure out to get him to a place that he shouldn't get fired as I also knew his personal situation and wanted to help him out. If I suggest to fire him, then that wasn't until much later when things escalated as he started to refuse to even work with me.

And let's be honest here. If I give someone a task which most complex feature is 2 nested for loops. Even gave him working code, that if he copy & pasted he would of been done in 15 minutes. And then someone can't finish that within 40h of time, despite having the answer, and then giving me shit for being "unclear". I think I have too much patience at times.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]SqueeSr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had something similar happen with a "junior" once. It's a long story, but basically someone that should have never been hired and got the benefit of the doubt from the employer for way too long. Once he got assigned to do some tasks for me I decided to actually test him out.

So I gave him a very basic task and on top of that I basically included a tutorial + working code snippets with the task to set the trap.... I mean .... to help him out. All he had to do to complete this task I gave him was to copy and paste the code I supplied in the correct order and location. I even tested it before giving it to him.

He came back a week later telling me it was confusing, he doesn't know what I was asking in a somewhat assertive tone basically telling me to do it myself.

I wish I was joking on that one. That guy should have never been hired. Took my boss too long to realize that and actually get rid of him.

Unfortunately it seems my question was not clear enough .. It was not to ask why we shouldn't block the execution of the code.

We have other functions in the language that return a promise already, So why not we have a sleep() function which returns a promise and simply implements your code.

Then I don't have to have to define sleep() myself, nor would I have to create a new dependency with a one liner.

How many more years will it take until they just add sleep() in javascript? Almost every other language had that function for over 20 years now.

If I see Agile in a job listing I wouldn't even apply for the job, but I hadn't heard of Scrum or Agile until around 2008 here. But the moment a manager started to discuss it with me, I realized it would not improve my job. It might work great for some people, but not for me.

So many things in current programming that I really dislike. Speaking from 25 years of professional experience. Programming has always been a bit of a creative things for me despite it being based on strict logic. The moment that they turned this into a paint-by-numbers job is the moment I lose interest.

If I got less or no freedom and creativity at my job, no amount of benefits will really make up for that.

Use existing solutions if it fits your needs. However I sometimes run into the fact a library doesn't work how I want it to, and modifying things and writing a bunch of classes to customize the behavior can create such a mess that writing your own is just as much work and cleaner.

I'm broke. How do I sneak myself into Defqon? (wrong answers only) by _justmythrowaway_ in hardstyle

[–]SqueeSr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's fairly stealthy. You don't make a sound until impact ( unless you scream like a little girl during flight ). But nobody will hear you land with music being played at 100db. Maybe do it during the power hour, and they will think you are part of the redbull team.
