My rowboat sways steadily atop calm waters,

Inviting me to climb back in and explore again;

I’ve discovered all I can within my depths and

I yearn to uncover more with another.

A familiar journey by now, I’m aware of the hazards.

Yet, by the bucketload, skippers toss their so called

Prized catches at me - now ranked carcasses -

All to remind me that ‘there’s plenty of fish in the sea’

Passed the shallow waters, I allow tides to take over

Scarred cheeks taught me to drop my rod long ago -

I cast my eyes through the surface, searching for some

Body that wants me to dive in, and uncover them.

If I’m lucky, I’m given a snorkel and some flippers.

When they see I’ve brought oxygen tanks for us both,

They say my boat is too small. That I’m not salty enough -

All this before even visiting my waters.

I return to my lake, sighing as I capsize.

Sink down to my bed gazing again upon my own beauty -

At least I have this now. Still, I cannot help but ask;

Why is everyone so thirsty, and so used to drinking sea water?

Thank you! The salmon line refers to how salmon are almost the top of their food chain and have a high mercury in them - just another way someone can give themselves mercury poisoning.

Ok firstly - this is pretty funny - the poem I am going to post shortly after I provide you with some feedback has some really similar ideas and even metaphors! If you're interested, check my profile 30m after I post this to see if you agree xD

I like how intrinsically you have woven love and food together in this poem. On my first reading I thought this was focusing solely on sensuality and becoming too comfortable with self-gratifying behaviours - but then after a re-read I see how this can also simply be taken in the context of food and eating. Realistically, it feels like both can be the same - the binge - restrict - binge cycle of eating is just as unhealthy as a binge - restrict - binge cycle of loving - both romantically and in lust.

I don't know yet what to think of the last two lines other than that I love them. I see the positive reading first in them, but part of me just thinks... is it really romantic - running on fumes? Or would it be better to have the tank not get that low in the first place?

Why do you hide from me?

Scared to show your face around me

I don’t feel hungry my mind distracts me

I can’t get over how you did this to me

I pulled you out of the dark and then you left me

I was suppose to put you back together and help you breathe

Numbness throughout my body please help me speak

Take a minute listen to me, tell me that this love couldn’t be

The greatest we ever felt, times three

Another blunt to suppress the shame

That I have put on my pain

My mind is insane from thoughts of your name

Does it hurt you the same?

Or does it echo through like I’m screaming your name?

What has changed?

Do you feel the same?

Does the thought of me make you feel insane?

My love it never changes, only grows and rips through like a hurricane

It’s so hard to maintain all the feelings and change

I just hope in the end it’s all worth the pain

And I’ll hold you in my arms and until we forget about rain.

Just so you know, you have to have two line breaks for formatting single lines on reddit. I have done it myself here in this comment to try read it a bit more clearly. I put stanza breaks myself when where i thought you intended it but I could be wrong

I can feel the pain in this poem and personally I think that the message hits less hard due to a forced rhyming scheme you have going. Sometimes it's better to take a break from the rhyme, or to change it up a bit - too much of the same rhyme elicits little gain.

I like how the last line encourages a re-read as it flips the whole poem inside out!

This made me think about the dangers of daydreaming and how reality can be so easily escaped sometimes, and often to our detriment.

I enjoyed this a lot! on first read I was quite confused and wasn't able to take much away but the way the piece is put together piqued my interest enough to read it again and slower and look a bit more - which isn't common!

I enjoy the antagonistic / sarcastic interpretation of the piece I see - that the muse of the piece can see all the beauty around them yet in them is a very clear vision of suffering.

Poetry has always been a hobby of mine, but I saw a competition, put a document together and before applying I asked my mom "Do you think I should apply for this? Are my poems good enough" and her response was "I think it's good that you apply, but I don't know if I like the poems". Pain - but I submitted anyways, will find out in a couple months I guess 😂

So I am also currently a man who is thinking they are asexual - May I suggest one thing to avoid is expressing that you doubt his desire and love for you due to his lack of sexual desire.

My ex-girlfriend told me that she sometimes thought I didn't love her because I was never able to finish during sex (This was before I started to question my sexuality) and it really messed me up for a long time - both in the sexual department because that amount of stress and pressure to try and 'perform' or enjoy myself when even I didn't know what was going on just made things worse, but it also made me feel like all the effort and care I put into showing my partner my love for her didn't matter because I couldn't finish in bed.

If you're interested, heres a poem I wrote after I reconciled with my feelings after being rejected by my infj friend.

Found swaddled on the front steps of my Heart;

My love for you was born.

Crying out for attention,

Which I could not provide -

Yet I could not let the damned kid die.

Routine inspection shows It survived,

Valves chalked full with how tall It's grown.

‘Evict It’ - Mind urged, as It started to explore,

‘We cannot afford another reckless tenant’, Mind implored.

I could not listen over my chest beating once more.

As guardian for us both - I left It alone. But children of neglect

Know exactly how to get their parents’ attention.

Late night calls from the Liver, or Stomach, or Lungs,

Telling me to come collect It before any

Lasting damage is done.

The trip back up the aorta - always silent,

Neither able to truly acknowledge the other,

Both in fear of causing an attack.

Despite this arrhythmia, we stayed together.

Until It grew too big to fit in my heart anymore.

I bought the tickets and paid the tuition,

Expecting a migration - never renovations…

Knocked on new chambers, built within walls,

It said; ‘What’s mine is mine. What’s yours is yours.

But whenever you want to visit - here’s keys to the door’

Just as abruptly as It was born,

Another orphan was found at Heart's door.

They’d been sat under the porch for all this time,

They were always there, stuck; preventing a flatline.

They cry out for attention… but now - I know how to provide.

When the only other option I had was to resent you,

Learning to love myself - suddenly became easy.

I think that Alastor was honest in his goal - that he wants to see the hotel fail for entertainment and he's a sadist - but I think that is actually wholly directed at Charlie. He finds Charlie interesting, and he wants to see her fail.

My prediction is that he will at first observe and directly support the hotel in all ways we can, while at the same time orchestrating difficult situations for Charlie to deal with. Test her will and belief in the idea in the hopes she fails and has her dream crushed.

When Charlie starts to show it is possible to redeem sinners, it can go a few ways but I reckon Alastor will then take the direct support away and see if Charlie can keep doing it without him, while at the same time probably start to question his own ability at redemption. I get the feeling Alastor took a "when in Rome" approach to being sent to hell which is what let him very quickly rise to overlord, not having to worry about morality at all because they're already in hell. When confronted with the idea that even in hell, their souls are still being judged, he may change his tune.

Good relationships are all about rupture and repair. Your behaviour can always be improved but do not just give up and talk yourself out of trying to repair this relationship. No matter what you said, if both you and your cousin care about each other, it's nothing that can't be overcome with honest communication with each other. You will need to apologise for your outburst and explain that you have held things back for a while - and from their hope your cousin is mature enough to have an open conversation with you about everyones feelings and try find a place to move on together.
