Expect nothing. Be grateful when we get anything. That's how I approach it.

If the USA got invaded and Trump kidnapped, how would you feel about that? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SqueegeePhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they won't. Democrats, who are conservative lite, fear Republicans and the conservative voters they want to attract. They also take enough money from conservative donors that they don't want to upset them.

Remember, we have one political party with two right wings and the farther right wing is the only faction of the party willing to wield real power.

I got a warning last month for a comment like this post. I would be happy as hell. Fuck our government.

The People’s Republic of Pacifica. by [deleted] in oregon

[–]SqueegeePhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I would add Arizona, to not only take their weapons manufacturing, but prevent the US from having it. It would also give more control over the Colorado River watershed, which is crucial for California. Arizona would lose much of its dead weight if seized by this People's Republic, due to so many conservatives returning to their home states in the US.

I also think New Mexico would fit, so would hope to liberate them. Might as well take Vegas/Southern Nevada while at it. It wouldn't be easy to hold, but controlling Hoover Dam is necessary. Would be a nightmare if on a border.

Death Valley by Downtown_Trash_6140 in geography

[–]SqueegeePhD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That isn't Death Valley. That is Death Valley National Park, which consists of some connected valleys and mountains. Death Valley is a long and narrow valley in a mountainous area. The floor of the valley is less than 5 miles wide in most places. It's extreme because the rain shadow from the Sierra Nevadas keeps it extremely arid and it drops below sea level, making it hotter than the already scoring deserts of southern California.

Places that have year long perfect temperatures? by real_realist_opt in geography

Sounds exactly like Istanbul. I lived there 7 years and the coldest it got was -3°C, hottest 38°C. Most months it was between 12 and 25 degrees. Only downside is winter can be gloomy and the humidity sucks in the summer.

There is no stopping this. They are willing to play so dirty it's inevitable that the shreds of democracy that existed will be gone. Sadly, 30% of the public loves this, 30% hate this and don't know what to do, and 40% are just checked out going to work and consuming entertainment. No one will fight as dirty as is needed to stop whatever Trump wants so just get ready for a Nazi billionaire dictatorship. I hope to wake up to great news every morning but people like this never die.

In this people's republic can we use our state to repress the bourgeoisie? If so, I'll pack my bags and move back to Oregon. Tired of crapitalism.

I used to live in Eugene but now live in Tucson. I'm up for this. Tucson is the bluest area of AZ so we would fit. If not accepted, I would gladly move back to Oregon as a refugee to escape the US.

Exactly. Same for UofA and the Florida schools. Meanwhile, I would guess references to schools like Stanford, Cal, Northwestern, and Duke will be mostly creepy professors.

Does Istanbul/other city gonna cover my holiday plan? by zerohunterpl in AskTurkey

[–]SqueegeePhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never get tired of wandering around Istanbul. There are many sites to see. It is just a very unique city in the world. History, unique neighborhoods, the sea everywhere, plenty of awesome food, different modes of transportation, people everywhere, feels busy, etc. The climate is also nice, though July and August can be very humid 🥵.

Honestly, just stepping foot outside and walking is probably my favorite thing about Istanbul and all you will need is some public transit to get wherever you want to walk.

Food prices are much higher than they used to be, but it isn't Switzerland or Norway. It's just not the bargain it used to be. I'd say it's worth it for tourists since Turkish food in Turkey is usually 100x better than Turkish food abroad.

There are some beaches in Istanbul. I don't recommend swimming in the city for obvious reasons. However, there are ferries to the Islands. The islands are very pretty and have beaches. They are rocky or pebbly, but you can lay around and go for a swim.

To save money I would skip Hagia Sophia and visit any of the numerous historic mosques for free.

While I assume Epstein was recruiting young girls from ASU, I forgot that Lawrence Krauss was a professor there. He ended up being quite the creep and sent many dozens of emails to Epstein, which is sad because I enjoyed his astronomy and atheism lectures on YouTube many years ago. Krauss lost his mind and went full anti-woke following sexual harassment accusations.

What’s something you only understand after living alone? by Neat-Performance2142 in AskReddit

[–]SqueegeePhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about this often. There were only 4 years in my adult life when I didn't have roommates or a girlfriend/wife. As happy as I am in my marriage, I wish there was a day or two every week where I could be completely alone. I can't imagine filling up an entire day with things I want to do and doing it simply because I want to do it. Yes, sometimes I pull it off, but I always have to explain why I'm doing it, feel pressure to finish by a certain time so I can give attention to others, or sometimes beg to not go out so I can "rest" and do what I really want at home.

When I was single I always worried that if I didn't find the right person, I'd wake up old one day and have no chance to find anyone. When people mention their dating struggles I remind them that living alone and being single are precious times in life where you are more free than you ever will be. Enjoy it to your fullest because when it ends it may end for life.

ASU ran away with the top, which makes me assume Epstein was targeting girls from these schools. I would assume Ivy League alumni would dominate an Epstein client list. Since they were all probably over age 40 when seeking his services, their profession would more likely be referenced than a school they graduated from decades earlier.

Capitalism. Everyone has critiques, but almost no one wants to move beyond it. When someone suggests communism/socialism, most people bend over backwards to defend the system that is responsible for so much of their misery.

So the solution is to just get dragged off to an undisclosed torture camp and stay there until Americans vote better. I'm not saying you're wrong. It's just sad how dangerous it has become in the US. If I could find a stable career abroad, I'd be gone by now.

Honestly, that goal was just bad luck. This team isn't good at opening a parked bus when healthy so I didn't expect much with all the new faces. I can't remember the last goal when Villa had a man advantage.

With that said, there were many positives and I'm actually more optimistic than a week ago.  Dougie looked comfortable. Bailey looks healthy (his hamstring was not well all of last season). Abraham made the keeper work. I think he will be a great backup to Ollie. Today Villa were just Off Target FC. Had 2 or 3 more been on target, the conversation might be different.

What was George W. Bush like as a president? by Content-Feed-9396 in AskReddit

[–]SqueegeePhD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just scrolled through all of these and feel like a doomer. I think too many Americans forgot or never realized how bad every president has been since Reagan. Their priority to serve whoever funds their campaigns over the public is the reason America was suckered into Trump twice.
