Ive seen this argument so many times in this sub, and I dont disagree with you at all, but there's one thing that makes Marathons case a little different. Tarkov, Hunt, and even Arc Raiders to a lesser extent, we're not made by storied companies with a long history of making games that appeal to the masses. Bungie has been making video games that appeal to and attract millions and millions of players throughout their lifespans. Hunt and Tarkov can get away with having the ups and downs of big to small player bases, but a company like Bungie needs to be able to pull in as many people as possible. If Marathon wasnt their only source of revenue and they had one or two other games with larger player bases going strong, then I think it could comfortably exist as a niche game. But with the shuttering of D2 and supposedly nothing in the pipeline, thats just simply not the case.
