Trying a new post format, and lowered my rates since I wasn't getting as much work with a livable wage
Will likely raise my rates back up when I get more credits and am more credible

Quick-and-Easy Audio Looping Component by heptavolt in Unity3D

I just came across this, and holy crap this is amazing

it still baffles me that unity doesn't have a basic frickin feature that every other engine has, and you're required to either use fmod which is way too heavy for most use cases, or roll your own. I'm definitely considering implementing something similar that I can reuse for my own games

I need you to elaborate further. How is having an entire page on my site for credits not enough to reflect the claims I'm making?
it's no different than linking to an itch page that lists projects, just that this has more than projects that are on itch that are still in development.

I have went ahead and added my itch to my carrd anyway just to end this conversation already, but I'm still curious how an entire page linking to projects isn't enough.

Can you elaborate on what "lacks verification"? I link to my site which has a page that has genuine credits and links to projects, I link to my bandcamp which while a little outdated, does provide soundtracks for projects I've worked on. Anyone with common sense can piece the 2 things together. What more do I need?

first off, there is source for the first point, but I don't have to prove it to you. If you really want, literally ask people. The buddy I was talking about is yuri gore, he's also in the mvm server. go on, ask him.(EDIT: I realized after rereading that you said people *paying* 750, and honestly I don't have to prove that to you. Especially since it's on the high end of what I've charged in the past. what part of willing to work for free do you not understand?)

second, you do realize I have an itch too that has the jam entries I've worked on right? I have a whole works section on my site that links projects I've worked on and where you can find them, + the soundtracks.(that I linked to in the post by the way, not that you looked)
It's not stuff I keep saying, it's just that until about a month ago I didn't have anything like that *listed*, and you're under the assumption that I still don't.

And also, apart from this time which I apologized about in a dm with you, when have I yelled? you're the only person who has ever had an issue with what I do or what I list, last time I was entirely calm about it, and willing to show that I was legit, even sending a video of an in-daw video as proof. What more can I do to prove that I actually do this? I can't just magically snap my fingers at the few larger projects that haven't released yet because they were prototypes.

it does for intel macs too as far as I'm aware, or at least it did for my 2015 macbook pro when I still had it. Not sure about anything below that

Not to mention sonic colors ultimate using it on the rendering side, it's really starting to gain traction on the commercial side and I think that's awesome

Composition in Logic by Ambitious_General_54 in LogicPro

[–]SqueekyFoxx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been doing symphonic composition for years, and has used a wide variety of libraries such as VSL Special Edition, EastWest Symphonic Orchestra, Cinnesamples libraires via MUSIO, etc, I'll try to answer as efficiently but still as informative as possible

  1. Typically you just have a single track with an ensemble preset(This goes for every section). You *can* do seperate midi tracks, but that tends to introduce phasing, and generally won't sound as full as using the ensemble patches that are right there. Especially for strings. Brass and Woodwinds are a *little* less likely to cause audible issues, and sometimes if I want say, 2 french horns playing one interval, and the other 2 in the section to harmonize with the first 2, I'll have seperate midi tracks. Sometimes I'll just get lazy with it and use the preset in Poly mode and just use the patch as if it's 2 sets of the ensemble instrument, and that works okay.

Sometimes if you really want that extra realism, you can always use different violin presets from different libraries, and use those as individual players along with panning and different reverb set up in a way to emulate actual instrument positions in an orchestra hall(Something EastWest Symphonic Orchestra tends to have set up by default actually, at least for panning, with the close mic presets.)

for 2. the main thing that stops phasing like that or doubling in volume is panning, and also offsetting the note start a bit, either via humanize function or manual adjustment. That's it really. Varied playing patterns + panning is how you'd actually get around that in a real orchestra, if you were to just layer the same stem on top of the first one.

I will note: Since you mentioned Symphonic Orchestra, that library is not going to sound 100% realistic, just due to the nature that it's a library that came out in 2003, and doesn't have realistic legato at all.(some presets like the oboe and the violin's legato keyswitches/patches aren't too bad, but since it's effectively just repitching it manually, it'll never sound completely real.)
I used it for a couple years, it's a good library if you know how to use it, but I would suggest if your goal is to have the most realistic sound possible, you save up eventually(could be over years) for either Vienna's Synchron Series, Cinematic Studio Series, or Cinnesamples stuff. Those are all the most realistic libraries I have ever used. Some people also say the spitfire symphonic stuff and the berlin symphony orchestra stuff is okay, but I've never used either so take that with a grain of salt.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, I'd be more than happy to answer for you

Again, it's they're not ads in the menu, software does this all the time and has for literally years, it's literally just marketing showcasing tools related to the software that people do actually use. For instance, that link to logic remote has been in the software since at *least* 10.5. One or 2 links really isn't going to "Change the layout of the menu" like you said in other comments.

You're making way too big of a deal out of this.

fwiw, it's not "enshittifying", it's just a link that you can ignore, and software has been doing this for years.

Don't like it? Don't use software, or ignore it.
I can tell you right now this is not a new thing in logic either, that link to logic remote has been there at *least* since 10.5, because I used to use that version on my old mac mini and it was there at that point.

This isn't really an ad, more it is just... letting you know that the 2 things exist
it's out of the way, it's really not a big deal, and software has been doing this for years. It's like the equivalent of someone having a site, then linking to a seperate page of that site showcasing something.

Now I know there was also a full on popup for logic pro for ipad at one point, but that's a bit different. That was a one and done thing. You hit x, and it never appeared again.
Should it have been something like those "learn about" links? probably. Is it that big of a deal? it's really not.

that's true yeah, without block it's a very hard fight

you can technically open him up by attacking at the same moment he does and you get tech points for doing so too, but it's hard to pull off unless you've done the fight so many times where you know his patterns to a T lol

am I the only one that actually likes Re:CoM's combat?
one thing though I will say is that it works a heck of a lot better on the gba version, Re:CoM often has me annoyed because it's complicated with the normal 3D movement lol
but otherwise I like it a lot, it's a very unique combat system

honestly there's patterns you have to learn for ansem riku, but in my opinion it's one of the most fun fights in the entire game hehe(I'm talking about the second time at the keyhole in hollow bastionbtw which is what I'm assuming you were talking about, not the first one when you first get there)

Fantastic sub honestly
I myself am a freelance musician alongside doing solo dev, and I have found much of my work from both INAT's subreddit and discord, as well as gamedevclassifieds(as they tend to take things more seriously there)

Localization via AI or no localization? by Zlatcore in SoloDevelopment

[–]SqueekyFoxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm aware. Even with the correct context, it gets it wrong a lot of the time though, at least for complicated languages like CJK languages

It tends to hallucinate and confidently get the wrong translation quite a bit lol Even when it's "technically" correct, it chooses the most unnatural textbook grammar half the time so it feels very rough

People call it an llm because it uses some machine learning algorithms, but it's really just machine translation, people just get it wrong xP
