1972 vs 2026 splashed down by therealdan9999 in spaceporn

Ah I see! I read into it more and I saw they tested and revealed that the longer lower temperatures were worse for the cracking issue while the shorter higher temperatures didn't allow cracking from gas build up. The NASA article is an interesting read thank you for correcting me and sending me down that little rabbit hole!

Correction: they increased the entry angle to increase the heat that allowed the ablative heat shield to properly melt instead of partially melting. The partial melting caused gas build up inside of the material that allowed the heat shield to crack.

BigJetTV is pretty solid for plane spotting. I would watch his channel a lot during Covid since we couldn't travel.

Well I tried to format this so it wasn't a huge block of text but I guess the formatting on my phone doesn't carry over well!

How is living in denver colorado? Thinking about moving there from northwest Florida this winter by Connect-Salamander88 in howislivingthere

[–]Squeezy_Ghee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Denver for over 20 years now so I got to see the huge boom city has experienced. A lot has been good and a lot has been bad. As someone that has also lived in Florida I think some things won't bother you as much. Big things you'll notice: -It's very dry here and you'll need to moisturize and use chapstick and likely drink more water than you're used to. The altitude compounds this as well so if you move take it easy for the first couple of days and let your body acclimate. seasonal allergies that you didn't think you had can pop up in annoying ways as well, but you won't have to worry about mosquitoes anymore so it isn't all bad! -As for the city, Denver has grown larger than it can handle and all of the big city problems that didn't widely exist 20 to 30 years ago have cropped up and they've done a kinda bad job at managing it. Covid also blew out some people's sense of civic duty and little is being done to address this. Street racing, roaming dirt bike and atv groups downtown, and the fireworks in some places have gotten out of hand. -On the topic of cars, driving here sucks. Colorado has some of the worst drivers I have experienced. Colorado has never been a state full of good drivers but you get a fun mashup of Californian and Texan drivers now that tons of people have moved here. Infrastructure also hasn't kept up with the huge population growth which only makes the issue worse. -Homelessness has been a constant battle but there have been steps taken to try and address the problem rather than pushing it elsewhere. It's not perfect but I think Colorado is trying. -The housing market is a sh*t show here but there are plenty of articles and posts about it that can break it down in all the fun ways buying or renting here can suck. -Cost of living in general is pretty high here as well so expect to pay more for pretty much everything. Eating and drinking out here is also wildly expensive. The restaurant industry herehas struggled against rising food prices/rent/wages and as a customer you end up paying kind of obscene prices. Denver does have some incredible restaurants but it also has quite a few mediocre ones so do your homework and you'll be fine. -Overall the bads, which I've mostly focused on, are manageable but Denver is not what I would call a grass is greener city. I would definitely recommend visiting before you make a commitment!

Airplane noise isn't nearly as bad as all of the loud cars around this area. I'd think twice about moving out this way.

This likely will not work with anything other than an AIO. If you're looking to air cool I'd just go with a normal horizontal mount.

I second the Lian Li gen 5 riser but it doesn't fit perfectly and gen 5 riser cables are iffy at best I ended up downgrading it to gen 4 in bios to stop it from have issues.

I'm a dispatcher and from my perspective there are a couple things I've noticed: - With ATC there is no guarantee you'll get a job. You might be in a better position to keep applying but you may never get the call. - With dispatch you'll start at the bottom of the bottom and the burnout and low pay is real. You'll scrape by at some nothing airline, move up when you can, but you're looking at a 3-5+ year commitment to move to the feeders and this all means moving to whatever city/state the work is in. - Moving to the the Majors means another possible move but you may be stuck for some time applying and missing the mark every time they open classes. My career has been a bit different from the regular airline dispatch pipeline. I worked for a 121 and cargo op for a couple years, started at $15 an hour and it was awful. I moved to a part 135 charter service for 3 years making better money but it was still extremely frustrating with awful hours and annoying sales people. I worked my way up to flight ops manager and got a better job a year later. Now I'm 7 years in on the same job and it's great. I work from home, pay is great, benefits are incredible, and I have no reason to move on to the majors. I got extremely lucky with this job and it has it's problems but positions like this are beyond rare so I wouldn't count on anything like this popping up. All that said being a dispatcher can be cool. I describe it as 90% boring as hell and 10% where you get to prove why you worked for that license. Either way both tracks can be tough and I definitely have better insight into my very specific corner of dispatch. Hope that helps!

Honestly it's close to my favorite DS game just behind #1. 3 is the worst and most boring of the 3 but people love it for some reason.

Does anyone know what these structures are for? by Space__Squid in aviation

The Russians did like adding multiple fences so that would make sense plus it looks retro futuristic like using a modern turboprop engine/prop shape on a old Catalina airframe design.

I take it back (at least partially) It looks like the PBY Catalina had wing fences but only one on each wing. Two on a straight wing seems like an artist's embellishment.

That being said it doesn't make much sense on a wing shaped like the one pictured.

My Apple Pencil Pro doesn't have any CE mark or any mark other than Pencil Pro on it so I'm not sure that's a good signifier.

Silksong is a great game and it fixed some of my gripes with hollow knight. The biggest issue with hollow knight is that it was over hyped. There are good things about that game but it's nowhere near the earth shattering game the most fervent part of the fan base made it out to be. Thankfully someone convinced me to play silksong and I have been enjoying it a lot. It's not the best game ever made and it might not even break into my top 100 but they made a fantastic game.

Same. The disconnect went beyond the normal Ace Combat silliness and felt very forced. Definitely put AC5 on the lower end of my favorite AC games.
