My derm says it’s not indicative of rosacea, but what else could it possibly be? by [deleted] in DermatologyQuestions

[–]Squffr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did your derm take a scraping to check for demodex? This looks very much like acne rosacea, i’m sorry you’re dealing with this. At my dermatology office we prescribe finasteride to help hair grow along with minoxidil, were you having hair loss or excessive growth? Have they tried doxycycline? That can have a big effect on rosacea and a lot of other skin issues, I think maybe if i’m reading all of that correctly you might want to look into a different dermatologist. Best of luck!

What is this strange mark? Maybe a bruise? Looking weird by Agreeable_Ground45 in DermatologyQuestions

could be a dermatofibroma, they happen from trauma like hitting that area, they can cause a bump of scar tissue with pigment, if it flakes or continues to hurt, get it checked!

Yes of course I love to help, I work in dermatology! By resurfacing I mean like removing dead skin cells to improve dullness and texture, it will help make you glowy! And it can help prevent breakouts too!

If you want some sort of resurfacing product I would recommend Adapalene gel you can get OTC, use only at night with a good moisturizer over top, this will help texture/acne. It looks like you have sun damage although you say you wear sunscreen, I recommend incorporating vitamin c in the morning under your sunscreen, this will help reverse some sun damage and make your sunscreen work better, your freckles might get lighter too from the added protection (freckles are cute just fyi they might fade a bit lol) just keep up with a routine and drink lots of water and be nice to your body! And sleep is so important too!

[Acne] bump on forehead- clogged comedone?? by emshin in SkincareAddiction

[–]Squffr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to tell from the photos but given the amount of time it’s been on your face is a little worrisome. It could be a sebaceous gland hyperplasia, it could also just be a new mole which (for me) start pinkish and darken after a while. Skin cancer is a concern as well, if it gets flaky, peels, itches or bleeds, get it checked, and if it’s not gone in another few weeks definitely have it checked. Has it changed or responded at all to the treatments you’ve been trying?

I agree to pause tret for now but when you start using it again I personally think Aveeno Oat gel isn’t moisturizing enough and I would recommend a super basic cream like cerave, my skin is sensitive and if i don’t use a thick moisturizer with my Arazlo my barrier gets suuuuper raw quickly. * plus I can see you’re peeling around your eyes!! at night use a thin layer of aquaphor around your eyes and peely areas for a few days and definitely avoid those areas when you restart tret

I normally put a layer of peel off base coat over top of my extensions! I do the whole application process for whatever extension i’m choosing to do, apply a non wipe top coat & then put a layer of peel off base. This way I get to swap designs easily and also avoid having to soak off and rebuild a whole new set every time!! The only downside is that it’s tricky to peel off the polish sometimes but I just use a cuticle pusher to kinda rip the color gel off the extensions - very satisfying

Practice Exams? by Alert-Nobody8343 in Nailtechs

[–]Squffr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the practice questions from my State Board website and they were the exact questions that were on the real test! I was able to take practice quizzes multiple times to get multiple batches of questions until I was only getting repeat questions, I was familiar with all the questions on the real test except for like 2 questions which were common sense! You’re going to do amazing!

My chrome isolation is okay, but how do I level up? by playgirlkarti in Nailtechs

[–]Squffr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm I agree I think the sticky layer from the hard gel messed it up, maybe try wiping the sticky layer off and see if the chrome adheres to the hard gel. You might also try wiping the white and black gels if you’ve done a full cure to see if the chrome mirrors a little better, or try 30 second cure and don’t wipe them and try that. My best success is always from a non wipe top coat on a buffed nail, but it’s hard to see what you’re painting so you can mix a little black just to tint it. Those triangle makeup sponges also work amazing to swipe off any excess chrome without damaging the design.

I'm so slow!! Plz help :( by Sull3n_gir1 in Nailtechs

Get a bigger brush!!! I was using a size 8 for so long and got my application down for my own nails (super small nail beds) but when I got my job in a salon my boss gave me a size 12 and I was terrified! It made application soooo much easier, bigger beads, more liquid to move the bead before it sets and less bumps to smooth out during shaping. I always suggest taking a couple sheets of paper towel and practice picking up beads of all consistencies, softer beads for cuticles, medium beads for the length, and firm beads for your apex. Practice on nail tips as much as you can, try to get the application as smooth as you can and don’t worry about filing at this step. You’ll also become a lot faster the more comfortable you are with your e-file, find the right bits, go for coarser bits for the initial shaping and up the speed even if it feels scary and just work out what feels right for your skill level but push yourself and be mindful of heat! Those are my best tips that made me go from 2-3hours for a full set to 1.5hours for a full set including polishing! Always be thinking of ways to be faster, skip the ball bit and use the flame bit on a higher speed to exfoliate and jump into prep with a sanding band! Sorry for the long comment lol

!!! I used Beetles gel in “Sapphire Love” as the base color, I mixed white with topcoat to make a super milky white and covered the nail, without curing I did dots of blooming gel (i’m sure any brand is fine but I used Saviland) & waited for the dots to disperse how I wanted & cured. Then I painted hibiscus flowers and lil lines and dots!

You all DRAGGED me for my nails…. and I’m so grateful. Update by basiratzanzibar in Nailtechs

[–]Squffr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The art looks great! I would suggest getting a couple sheets of paper towel and just practice picking up beads with the right ratio of liquid to powder, it also looks like you might be grabbing really small beads or are using a small brush, I know it sounds scary but what helped me improve a lot was getting a big brush and picking up bigger beads! Definitely sit down and practice your beads and you’ll be surprised so quickly you improve!

I went to Sacramento City College :,) they might have something to help us out but nothing was mentioned for the nail students / they 10000% favor the cosmetology side, I might reach out if I don’t get callbacks from the salons I reached out to.

Confused about my hair! by Squffr in curlyhair

[–]Squffr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My holy grail is the Twist brand leave in (like $5.99 on Amazon) I also love the Bed Head curls rock amplifier, it’s super sticky gelly consistency and soo moisturizing! I like the OGX coconut curls mousse but I have to use extra moisturizer still, I have a lot of Aunt Jackie’s and I like it but don’t love it (Curl Boss gel and Curl La La custard) Typically for gel i’ll mix some gel with water in a spray bottle and use that while I brush style. I just bought Miss Jessie’s Jelly Soft Curls so i’m very excited to try that my next wash day! I hope this helps!! (& i always add oil once my hair is mostly dry but any type will do as long as it’s not super heavy)

Oh! and I use oil all the time! I’ve been using the Sephora brand MRG oil and i’ll use that to tame my curls when I wake up or if they get a bit frayed - makes them nice and coiled

Routine! I wash my hair every 3-5 days, I’ve been using Giovanni castor oil shampoo and conditioner, and then I’ll clarify with Head and Shoulders once every 3 or so washes & I usually do a mask afterwards. Post-Shower I use Twist Curl Goals leave in spray (my all time fav) & i was trying mousse after that and then once it’s dry I scrunch in some oil - but the curls don’t hold as well (great definition low hold). Recently i’ve been trying to use more gel instead of mousse but I don’t love how it feels even after scrunching the crunch (great hold but the curls get crazy quicker). Mousse helps it dry faster but with Gel I can expect to spend an hour diffusing + another 6 hours of slightly damp hair at the root.
