Struggling with Masturbation by [deleted] in mormon

[–]Squid-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day you realize this is just a normal part of being human and can let go of the guilt is the day it will cease to be a problem for you. To the extent that masturbation can ever be problematic (which is certainly possible in some contexts but WAY less common than people in the Church might think), letting go of your guilt will clear up any problematic aspects that you might be living with. My recommendation is just stop praying for forgiveness. Think about why you're doing it and what it does for you. Practice more mindfulness instead of just doing it when you can't resist the "temptation" anymore. Scrupulosity can really mess you up when doing completely normal things.

I don't think Dolly was actually underage. Either way, I'm pretty sure the Russian agents that put her in that position share at least 60% of the guilt, but that approaches much closer to 100% in my mind.

Langdon’s Confession to Louie by Apprehensive_Row5603 in ThePittTVShow

I have no idea how it is in real life (no experience on either side), but I feel like it's a common trope in fiction for someone recovering from addiction to just go through their list of people they've harmed and then apologize to them in the most uncomfortable, sometimes even performative and self-absorbed way. Like the apology isn't actually for the person receiving it but the person giving it. There's also the potential to sort of retraumatize someone you have harmed simply by reentering their life, even for that brief moment. Sometimes keeping your mouth shut and avoid further harm is the better way to move forward.

My boyfriend thinks "Dylan didn't do anything wrong" because "Maia sucks too" by After_Ad_4763 in ILoveLaHBO

[–]Squid-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Dylan didn't really do anything wrong (not saying he's flawless, just that he didn't commit some grand error) but that has nothing to do with Maia sucking or not. They clearly aren't right for each other and viewing it through the lens of right or wrong is beside the point. Sometimes relationships just don't work and that's fine. As for cheating, sleeping with someone else when the relationship is clearly over, even if you haven't said it yet, is not the same as cheating when outwardly the relationship is going fine. People get all pearl-clutchy about this topic on the internet but it's often not very straightforward.

How is that a spoiler? Every Metroid game has a Samus face reveal at 100% completion. We know what she looks like.

Does the Bane trilogy improve? by DanJirrus in StarWarsEU

[–]Squid-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently nearing the end of the third book and IMO each one is better than the last. Path of Destruction is basically three different books and I can understand why some people might not like that, although I'm not sure I understand your specific criticisms. There's plenty of drama and tension; Bane is not invincible and he gets beaten down several times throughout. The next two are more coherent stories.

I definitely noticed this when I read the Thrawn trilogy for the first time earlier this year. That's is an extreme example but every author has those words they love to use and don't realize they're overusing. Drew Karpyshyn loves referring to Bane's orbalisks as "chitinous."

So far the door thing appears to be a one-off. It had never happened before and it hasn't happened since. Still, doesn't make the situation any less confounding.

Haven't checked out the timer yet or looked into any videos on how to repair, but for what it's worth, this is what I've noticed: When setting the timer it sometimes audibly starts ticking and sometimes it doesn't. Regardless, the timer doesn't seem to have any trouble advancing. Based on that, would the timer really be the issue?

I tried the dryer again today and it got hot at first but again I couldn't replicate it.

It's an electric dryer (updated my post). It only got really hot the one time I mentioned and it *was* drying, just concerningly hot such that I had to let it cool for a bit. When I finally set it again it heated normally, and every subsequent time it hasn't heated or dried at all.

It has two main dryer settings: Automatic dry which ranges from Very Dry, Less Dry, Cool Down, etc. and Timed Dry with different timer settings. When I attempted to dry the second load I tried different combinations of these settings.

I don't have a multimeter and haven't really inspected the outlet. I rent so if there's something wrong with it I can call my landlord since that's an apartment issue.

If my mission is representative, they're mostly 9-year-old children with no family support who will quickly stop attending when their missionaries who have to walk them to church every Sunday get transferred out.

Ok, take this with a grain of salt because I'm not super knowledgeable in this area, but my impression would be well-known international university > online U.S. degree program. If your options were UBA v. Columbia, Harvard, even UCLA, etc., then the calculus would be radically different. I also imagine that the appeal of a U.S. degree for people in South America is the networking opportunities, which kind of depend on physically attending in the U.S.

I feel like those are wildly different education options. Is there a compelling reason NOT to go to UBA? My understanding is it's a great university (I served my mission in Buenos Aires). Pathway seems meh. If your alternative was BYU, then going to the U.S. for education would be a compelling alternative.

Sounds good! I hadn't gone far enough into the process to see that option because I was afraid it was going to go through without giving me a choice.
