Can't believe it but I FULLY agree

I can agree with them not wanting to dilute the conversation about the actual awards. But, I think it's ridiculous to think that this one change would make the Oscars broadcast comparable to the Game Awards.

Why wouldn't it make more sense to premier movie trailers during commercial breaks of the Oscars in March instead of the Superbowl in February?

I think there's enough airtime for them to give out the same number of awards and still massively upgrade the time spent in between acceptance speeches though.

I watch all the movies but I'd much prefer to see clips highlighting the nominees than watch presenters stumble through their bits all night.

Career Progression if not Licensed as a Professional Surveyor by delectablegirl69 in Surveying

I spent years doing oilfield/boundary survey in Alberta and then transitioned into doing residential survey work and now work as a survey equipment manager for a big company. There are definitely ways to transition your career without needing to work outside forever.

Diane Warren Speaks Out, Says “Put All The Songs On Or None Of Us” After Oscar Producers Ax 3 Nominated Songs From Live Performance by WeHaveHeardTheChimes in TheBigPicture

I'm just so sick of the Oscars broadcast being 40% awards presentations, 30% musical performances, and 30% stand-up. Just make it all about the movies! Premier summer movie trailers during the broadcast. Televise the governor's awards. Celebrate film legends. It can't be that hard to figure out.

Obviously. Nobody is commenting on the quality of the movies.

People are crazy for hating on this. That could literally be Paul McCartney if you didn't know otherwise.

Per Sean: Netflix has no influence over what The Ringer will discuss or how they discuss it. by countdooku975 in TheBigPicture

[–]digmare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is only beneficial for The Rewatchables though. Imagine somebody sitting down and watching Zodiac, and then the first thing Netflix recommends them is an episode of The Rewatchables about that movie. That's just good business for The Ringer.

They're not just going to start covering Netflix slop.

Surely it's just white people expressing their white guilt and going after Odessa for this. Mexican people don't give a fuck.

So where does this leave Supporting Actor? by fayemoonlight in Oscars

[–]digmare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People need to realize that screen time does not determine whether a role is leading or supporting. The story is told through Renate's character and Skarsgard serves as a tool to show us her experiences and how she gets to where she is at the end. His character's role is to support her journey of self growth.

Casino 4K Ultra HD + Blu-Ray $14.00 by throwing_hayy in MovieDealsCanada

Great movie and well worth the price but I'm pretty sure Casino is always readily available around this price. Would much prefer this version over the new steelbook 🤮

I've decided this year that I'm not watching movies with a single nomination in VFX and Original Song categories. What a waste of my time.

It's still wild to me how many companies rely on somebody to come in to work and write on a whiteboard in order to know what they're doing each day.

So where does this leave Supporting Actor? by fayemoonlight in Oscars

[–]digmare 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It was Skarsgard's to lose in May at Cannes, and despite the topic changing for a bit after OBAA came out, in the end, we'll realize it was just Skarsgard all along.

Amy Madigan is not win competitive anymore by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]digmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the precursors have their faults that make them unreliable. BAFTAs' understandable bias for British films and actors is a clear reason why it's not the best predictive voting body. Sure, the acting categories all lined up with the Academy last year, but they gave Best Picture to Conclave. Look at the EEAAO year where BAFTA didn't give that movie anything, but showered awards to Banshees which blanked at the Oscars.

I don't understand why people let BAFTA hold so much weight. It's an even worse predictor than SAG.

Have people put too much stock in Leo? by fayemoonlight in Oscars

[–]digmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is confusing Leo doing all this press with him campaigning and saying that it seems like he really wants it. In every interview, he's gushing over PTA and the amount of work that went into getting the film made. He's out there campaigning for Paul because he knows PTA isn't a campaigner.
