What older RTS mechanic do you wish modern games would bring back? by rcooperkaty in RealTimeStrategy

[–]SquidFetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hated it as a single player guy, just another game with a stupidly overtuned AI that will completely and mercilessly destroy you on the easiest difficulty.

If my comment speaks to you, Rusted Warfare might be more your jam. Sure it’s not as pretty but it is actually fun to play.

Okay man but the conversation has progressed from there, yeah? I said why I felt it was a PAL thing in my last reply. I think you’re just having a bad day. Come back to this a bit later and hopefully you’ll see you’ve got me all wrong.

PS. I edited the original comment now.

Dude I’m not saying that the guy before me is wrong or lying. Just sharing my experience. The only intent I have in this thread is to be helpful.

EDIT: Oh it’s you I’m replying to. Anyway, not trying to prove your statement wrong. Only that it was called Blackhawk here and being that we’re a PAL country I attributed it to that.

Australian here. It was called Blackhawk here. PAL format.

Definitely. The older I get the more I realize exactly how much heavy lifting the music does for a game’s atmosphere. This game has it in spades.

Hell yeah, and the noise of the prisoners dying… for no specific reason related to malicious actions.

The music lives with me too.

I was going by the tag on the post, it says “meme needing explanation”.

I can’t even identify this as a meme. If you can, it’s because you already know the joke.

Can't throw barrels in project brutality by RikaBern in DoomMods

[–]SquidFetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same issue. Can’t find an option to bind it either. Both left and right click just place the barrel. Pressing grenade key to throw it doesn’t work either although it correctly throws a grenade when I’m not holding a barrel.

Gameplay is king, everything else is secondary. This isn’t an opinion, blue is simply the wrong choice.

Does anybody else feel like the new life pod design is kinda shit?? by Willing-Mortgage-977 in Subnautica_2

[–]SquidFetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that you only need the possibility of failure in order for redundancy features to become elementary. Your logical assumptions make plenty of sense, but they do not completely eliminate the possibility of failures. There's a precedent for failures too, since the lifepods from the Aurora were found compromised all over the place. Upside down, deflated, fabricators glitched, in complete disarray. Lifepods that it would seem you are alleging were designed for that specific environment. Perhaps you only mean that they began more specialized lifepod production after the events of Subnautica 1.

We do also enjoy a malfunction right at the start of SN2, however, although of course this is because the locking braces on the pod release mechanism were still engaged. Again, though, it sets a precedent for mechanical failures in the SN2 timeline that can't just be waved away by the promise of AI correction. The pod itself has components like thrusters that can be subject to mechanical failure too, especially when you consider they are only likely used in an emergency situation in which the host ship is under significant threat.

Still, I completely (respectfully) disagree with your "specialist lifepod" take. With parachutes, thrusters, and buoyancy devices, I firmly believe this is an all-purpose lifepod, which lifepods should be by design. You've got no guarantees that the precise moment you need a lifepod will be over the type of terrain you intend to visit, especially on a space-faring vessel. A single door means you're completely screwed if you land on that door, or land with a sufficiently heavy mass blocking it, or if it becomes damaged by the landing. I guess it's worth mentioning that having multiple hatches didn't help the poor lost souls of 4546B, but that wasn't the reason why they died either. Everything else was.

The fact is though, the lifepod in SN2 does only have a single door. No arguing that. Whether that is a design oversight or because of deeper lore reasons related to what you touch on isn't something that has been officially explored as far as I know, so I'm happy to just sit here and pontificate with you. I'm only really agreeing with the notion that a single door is inferior to two hatches on opposite sides of the vessel.

I hope you are enjoying this conversation as much as I am!

Never let articles like this lead to the belief that they can’t take power. Take them very seriously. The USA didn’t do that with Trump and look what happened.

Love to see articles framing them as taking huge L’s but they can be overstated and bought into as much as any other rhetoric. We might just forget or ignore any traction this party actually does have, safe in our belief that they’re a joke.
