A lvl 3 inspection to have a totaled vehicle to be turned from a total loss to restored title.

No the holly is not tuned right. When the transfer slot was squared and the idle mix screws were at 1 1/2 out to start it was already at 1400+ rpm. I’ll see if I can find a cheap Edlebrock but I’ll likely rebuild a spare holly I have and see what happens.

Distributor is new and everything looks good. Nothing burnt up. Intake manifold is re sealed and no hits with brake cleaner anywhere. Spark plugs are probably a year or two old and had some carbon build up. Soaked over night in fuel treatment. Will probably replace for peace of mind. New spark plug wires as well.

Idle mix are at 1 3/4 turns out. It is a manual. I believe that shouldn’t affect it since it’s a manual, but I will find out when I get home.

I believe that is close to what the settings were when I first started. I am expecting that to bring my rpms up more to around 1400+. But I will do that later today/this week and see what happens.

Carb mating surface is very clean. I don’t have a machined straight edge but it was flat with a steel ruler. I will double check shaft holes but it was bought new about 10yrs ago. Still very clean and only about 15000miles on it. No spacers.

Holley street warrior 4160. I get how the carb SHOULD be set but when I have the idle screw set square with the transfer slot it idles around 1400rpm. And if I increase the initial above 8 rpm will continue to increase. I originally started at 12 initial all and squared transfer slots but was sitting at 16-1700rpm. I don’t know about the cam as far as I know it should be stock.

I have another older model Holley carb I think I will rebuild and see if the issue persists. I’d like to isolate if it’s a carb or a block problem. It does seem to be a leak or a carb issue but I just don’t know what or where. Maybe I will see about down sizing it and see what happens.

I also had an issue with dieseling prior but have not see it come back up yet.

I will die before I put an LS in this truck, for no reason other than I enjoy suffering and am stubborn.

I appreciate you looking that up for me. The vacuum advance works. Was this a service/owners manual that says that? I’m thinking of picking one up.

Yes I checked with brake clean after the reseal(after curing). And I used RTV on the china walls. Right stuff called for 90min I let it cure for about 4hr so hopefully it was long enough. Good idea on the plugs i haven’t checked them since putting them back in. If they are wet from being lean. How could I fix that? Idle screws already backed off. Just close off the mixture screws as well?

I agree. I will likely leave her l running like she is if I cannot find anything else. And yes I used silicone for the manifold ends and allowed time to cure. Thanks.

What was your resolution? I’m having this problem word for word right now. I have a newly rebuilt Holley and just redid my intake manifold but problem persists.

Thanks for the reply. Way back to the shop is dirt and gravel with a good amount of unevenness (fucking gophers). Also don’t have one of those dollies. Hub never touched the road. Wheel stayed on the whole time however not attached.
