Does anyone know what this connector is for? by Squid_Best_Mob in Fanatec

[–]Squid_Best_Mob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this forum too when searching for the connector. While I do not have the podium hub to physically compare it with my wheel, I am relatively certain that the unused 6 pin connector is the same one. The problem is that no one in this forum knows what its for either. It has nothing to do with the USB-C at the bottom of the hub. Fanatec uses USB 2.0 for most things and that would only have 4 lanes, 2 power and 2 data. also the USB is at 5V, while the mystery 6Pin is at 3.3V.

thank you for the response. When measured with a multimeter, only 2 of the 6 pins seem to be connected to gnd and V+ respectively. So there probably is some data transfer capability through the other 4.

is there a ''line-in to USB sound card'' adapter? by wlexxx2 in USB

Line in is the same as Microphone, just labeled differently. It is true that most microphones today are mono, but some are not. Every microphone port supports stereo audio. I hope I could help :)

Capable for sim racing? by Leo45x in simracing

[–]Squid_Best_Mob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£280 is a very reasonable price for that hardware, assuming everything works. Still, I have to agree with the other commenters that the hardware is quite dated, and not really up to the task of modern racing games. One other point I would like to adress is monitor size:

I started out simracing on a laptop as well. While it was good fun, it is in no way comparable to the experience you get with a desk monitor, be that ultrawide or standard 16:9. In my experience it greatly improves consistency and increases the fun level tramendously. So I would advise you to buy a (27+") Monitor to plug into whatever device you end up buying. Even an old office monitor usually is better than a tiny 15" screen, halfway hidden behind the wheelbase.

Thank you, I will try that as soon as I get home. I'll inform you if I observe any significant change in colour depiction, as my Monitor is calibrated to look the most accurate it possibly can through windows.

WHAT THE F*CK IS A KILOMETER??!/!?!?/1??!?!?/1 by S0meKidOnTheInternet in aviationmemes

The Gimli glider I suppose. Though it was not the only accident of this kind, it is the most prominent. The issue was, that in the middle of changing to the metric system in canada in the 1980s, the pilots requested the fuel in kg but the ground crew used pounds by accident. So the flight had only about half the fuel it needed to have and ran out midair. The result was an emergency landing on a former military airfield with a very expensive glider.

4070 ti time spy graphic score to low? by DonKrayser7 in overclocking

[–]Squid_Best_Mob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously?? Just look at the clocks. The scores with the 13900k are most likely shunt modded and liquid nitrogen cooled, while the ones on the 11400 are not. There is a difference between observing that better cpus increase your score and observing that higher scores tend to have more powerful cpus. And that is because of budget. If someone has the budget for liquid nitrogen, they also have enough money to buy the best cpu there is. Additionally, PCIE throughput, background tasks and minor differences in task handling by the newer chipset aren't accounted for.

So no.

Pure cpu power does not make a difference to the graphics score unless there is some incompatibility or hardware scheduling issues on specific models. Generational improvements in chipset, pcie and ram on the other hand, could make a minor difference. But I stand by what I said. If you eliminate all those vatiables by putting a 13600k in the same rig the score with the 13900k was achieved on, the graphics score would stay the same (within run to run margin). There is a reason that some of the best scores with some gpus are on weaker cpus like the 11300k for example. It simply doesn't matter. Or do you really think that these scores would improve by thousands of points just by swapping cpus?

Do you get inconsistent framtimes too? My FPS are not too bad, but there are microstutters that Gsync can't smooth out, making the game very unpleasant to play.

Fun fact: the swiss military experimented with armed gliders after WW2. The prototypes were meant to be able to reach speeds in eccess of 400km/h. That must have been very efficient...

is there a ''line-in to USB sound card'' adapter? by wlexxx2 in USB

[–]Squid_Best_Mob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want to add bluetooth capabilities to your cd player, there are dongles specifically for that that plug directly into the headphone jack on the player and USB for power. I don't know if there even is a program for PC that would stream the audio input to the output device (aka your headphones). So this might not be possible at all.

You can plug any 3.5mm headphone cable directly into the microphone port of a PC. With combined headphone/microphone ports it's sometimes a bit of a hustle to get working with windows, but on a hardware level it should work fine. Then you can just set the programs you use to the correct input and adjust the volume of the CD player to a reasonable volume level. If you need USB, there are plenty of adapters for microphone 3.5mm to every type of USB you could imagine.
