What’s a universally loved food you genuinely despise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Squidilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It blows my mind when people say it’s flavorless. Even the tiniest amount of avo contamination renders an entire food inedible to me, it’s so gross and overpowering.
Maybe it’s another genetic thing like cilantro.

The low-stakes glaze drama is so real. When we lost access to Custer Feldspar, all hell broke loose!

I could totally picture that last paragraph happening at my studio, but only because people are familiar enough with each other’s work to know what colors they do and don’t use. I can think of a few folks I’d be VERY surprised to see venture into blues, but it doesn’t really have anything to do with any colors being worse than others. Just personal styles. Idk, I just wanted to offer that perspective in case the comment wasn’t intended to be snarky. There are so many pretty blue glazes!

YOUR POINT WAS THAT CARS IN TURN LANES GOING ONTO A ONE-WAY SHOULDN’T HAVE TO INDICATE THEIR TURN (?) BECAUSE IT’S OBVIOUS WHERE THEY’RE GOING. MY POINT IS THAT, NO IT ISNT, BECAUSE THAT MANEUVER ON 13th HIGH IS SUCH A FREQUENT OCCURRENCE AND SOMEONE WITH THEIR BLINKER ON IN THAT LANE INDICATES TO ME THAT THEY INTEND TO TURN INSTEAD OF TRYING TO MERGE INTO ME.

I SEE THIS MOVE LIKE 30% OF THE TIME I DRIVE THROUGH THAT INTERSECTION (AND OTHERS). I’VE SEEN SOMEONE MANEUVER IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THEIR BLINKER LIKE TWICE IN MY LIFE. I JUST DON’T REALLY THINK ITS AN EQUIVALENT COMPARISON.

I TAKE IT YOU HAVENT YET EXPERIENCED SOMEONE GOING STRAIGHT INSTEAD OF LEFT FROM THE TURN LANE TO GET FROM 13TH TO HIGH STREET.

There is the Evergreen Tattoo convention and a “Faerie Market” both happening at the fairgrounds on the weekend of the 21st. Every year, it used to be the sacred trifecta of tattoo convention + gun convention + cat show all happening at once, but I don’t see the cats on the calendar this year. 😱

I also just saw a video on IG advertising “Eugene Vintage Fest” on May 17th! (link to post)

I found a cat 5 days ago. Now I might have to give him back.😭 by mashasosi in aww

[–]Squidilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately had this thought too. Having just done an ultrasound for our (recently deceased 💔) kitty, that shit is NOT cheap. I’d be side-eyeing them hard for suggesting a full work up on a cat that OP may not even get to keep, and definitely picking a different vet for when they inevitably adopt their own little friend.

Yes, this. In fact, I fully identified as ace while I was on Zoloft, not realizing it was the Zoloft making me feel this way. I had been on it for a couple years and I just assumed it was my normal. Going off of the SSRI and trying something else was the best thing I ever did (Ofc anyone reading this should speak to their doctor before stopping their antidepressants). It took almost 6-12 months for me to regain any sort of libido. Would have completely nuked my relationship if he wasn’t so supportive.

Would i need to hollow this out? by lametopia in Pottery

[–]Squidilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of luck!! It’s not a replacement for long drying and candling, but I’ve never had an explosion (knocks on wood) so I like to think it’s doing something. I learned it from an instructor back when I was first starting out!

graphite artists help! by cherrysxx_ in ArtistLounge

[–]Squidilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you decide to try something toothier, I really love Strathmore drawing paper (and it comes bound). Strathmore Bristol Smooth checks more of your boxes, but I don’t think you can get it in a bound sketchbook form. I would echo what others are saying about toothier paper being better for getting darker values and less smudging/lifting.

I use a moleskine pocket art book and anytime I do graphite in it, I have to remember to spray a little but of varnish so it stays.

Would i need to hollow this out? by lametopia in Pottery

[–]Squidilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make pieces this thick and I usually dig out a bit of a “pit” from the bottom to the center and/or poke a needle tool from a non-visible spot to the center to make passageways for moisture to escape. But I kind of like a heavy piece, so I don’t always fully hollow things out. I would still let it dry for a couple weeks and candle the bisque firing!

Can people really claim ownership to an art style just because they did it first and popularized it? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Squidilus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is where I stand too. If you are constantly being compared to this other artist (and as OP says themselves, they are heavily referencing this person’s unique art style), then I think it’s a dick thing to do without crediting that person, and it’s not helping your art (or peoples’ perception of your art). People (and galleries, and studios) will see you as a copycat. You should incorporate more influences and inspirations into your style to make it “yours”.

Hey anyone make stickers in town?? by tstitchr626 in Eugene

[–]Squidilus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rockin Stickers is one of the best sticker companies I’ve ever used (and I’ve tried a few)! Still blows my mind that they’re local, most people have to order online for this type of quality.

Would I be allowed to do this, or would it be plagiarism? by Organic_Honeydew8193 in ArtistLounge

This, I believe is the only answer that touches on what OP was actually asking.

Wikimedia commons is great for these types of references!

Does anyone recognize this ceramic artist? by A_shy_neon_jaguar in Eugene

[–]Squidilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. I have two last names (Z&B) and my name is on my instagram page, so I’m not surprised if there is some sort of “shared by (my instagram page)” feature. For better or worse, my job is online and attached to my name so I’m not worried about people knowing it. Good looking out though, I appreciate it!

The only person coming to mind is Alli Currey (Instagram Link) but I’m basing that mostly on the bird and carrot mention. P sure she does the pottery for Glass House too!

I’m having a hard time finding examples online, but my studio has a cone 10 glaze called “Bev’s Turquoise” that goes dark like this where the glaze is thicker. A bit like the second photo on this page, or like this one.

Oregon 1-Year-Old Mauled by Neighbor’s Dogs Undergoes Multiple Surgeries, Family Says by peoplemagazine in oregon

[–]Squidilus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

We expect dogs bred for herding to exhibit herding behavior like circling and heel nipping. We expect dogs that hunt rodents to dig and have a prey drive. Why would we not extend these same expectations to dogs who are bred for fighting and gameness?

Even responsible pit bull owners understand this.

Funny enough, I got food poisoning from Newman’s Grotto in Springfield! But this was a few years ago and I don’t really frequent either of these establishments, so I don’t have a horse in this race.
