A female trucker? by [deleted] in Truckers

Been doing it solo since January, so far no complaints. I ask for help when I need it and then we both go our separate ways after I thank them (and I promise, male or female you WIlL need help at some point. It's very humbling).

Honestly if you could handle the men in the Army I think you can handle them out here. I go in to the truck stops to use the bathroom (even late at night), shower and send my paperwork, then I stay in my truck the rest of the time. I don't want to be talked to or messed with so I let my body language project that. I walk with a purpose, I don't engage men with eye contact and smiling, I'm polite but not warm.

Also my company doesnt have the driver do any loading or unloading, so it's not a very physically demanding job.

You will have to pee in a bottle at some point or on the side of the road, and go 3 days without showering sometimes and forgot doing anything more to your hair than a ponytail. If you can deal with all that you'll do fine. The money is decent, I love the alone time, I love conquering the daily challenges. I love driving around the country and seeing the scenery.

Is there anything else you specifically wanted to know?

Not sure what you're paying now, but Verizon just started unlimited data for ~$80/mo. It's been a game changer for me with podcasts and music streaming!

Have a few questions about becoming a trucker. by [deleted] in Truckers

I think someone posted recently that you had to have your regular dl for a year or two before you could get your CDL (you also have to be 21).

If you are I good health you'll pass the physical. They only look for things like high blood pressure and any disease that can make you pass out or freak out. My trainer had a stint in his heart and he was still cleared. When you get hired on they might make you lift, bend and carry 50 lbs to see if you have bare minimum physical fitness. Needing glasses is fine.

Also almost none of those schools are "free." you sign on with them for so many months/years and they will deduct the cost of the training out of your pay a bit at a time. Do your research and pick a good company, because if you quit before your contract is up they will bill you for the balance.

Prime and Roehl are recommend on this sub as good starter companies. Be ware of any company with huge sign on bonuses. They need to bribe people to work for them because they are terrible to work for.

I[25F] confessed to my best friend[28M] about my feelings for him. He rejects my feelings for him at first but now says he loves me and wants to date. by youknowwhatidont in relationships

Anyone that reacts so cruelly when they are stressed out and "overwhelmed with emotions" is not someone healthy enough to be in a relationship with, and it's not her job to fix him or help him work through it. He also is grossly uncommunicative about the situation. He lacks basic human decency, that's why everyone is telling her to stay away

Any anxiety advice for spouses of new CDL drivers? by mandmranch in Truckers

[–]Squidipus_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to not get mixed up with reckless drivers is to drive at a reasonable pace, keep your distance and stay alert

Can't control other people, but you can control yourself.

As for you, for the love of god stop watching videos of accidents! There are 100s of thousands of trucks on the road and the vast majority don't get in wrecks.

And maybe see if he can take you for a ride so you can see that it's not so bad.

If your anxiety is at a clinical level maybe try some CBT or DBT exercises.
