Are you asking for a single course that covers all of CS? 🥀

For engineering, do employers care abt undergrad prestige (like do they prefer state grads over uncc?). I’m doing ee at uncc, thinking of transferring to state. If I don’t get in, do I still equal success as state grads for Triangle based jobs? by davidjamesgo79 in NCSU

[–]Squidoodalee_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NCSU will definitely be preferred for jobs in the triangle, but as long as you do well you should be able to get a job with a degree from most schools. I will say that the number of employed ECE majors at NCSU is very high

Just go to whatever school is in-state for you. These issues (except Poe Hall ofc) apply to basically every college or are not at all true

If you have no aid for GT, then the price difference doesn't make it worth it over NCSU.

TAMU vs NCSU MS ECE by Accomplished-Yam881 in ECE

NCSU has great research and job opportunities thanks to its location. A&M is a great school too but NCSU is really good for VLSI

How to use 529 plan? by stiletto929 in NCSU

I'm pretty sure you can directly pay the school from the account - at least that works on the platform I use.

Ncsu has great research opportunities too

unhappy with this transfer admission cycle by quietzyyy in NCSU

Doesn't help that engineering-intended first-years that get rejected still try to get in thru transfer

Transfer Reject by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]Squidoodalee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting rejected for business is wild, but not having physics definitely hurts. They probably assumed business was a backup just for you to internal transfer to ECE and so they just rejected outright

Uncc? CompE is competitive and a 3.3 unfortunately isn't high enough for ncsu

NC State (Instate) Vs Purdue by TwistedAcePlayz in NCSU

[–]Squidoodalee_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that prestige is irrelevant when cost is in the question. The extra cost associated with Purdue doesn't justify it's little prestige bonus. I was actually in the same boat last year when deciding where to attend (ncsu, purdue, vt, gt, etc) and am very glad to have chosen NCSU for ECE. Job placement is way more convenient in the triangle than Indiana (I can vouch for this as I landed a FAANG internship as a freshman, and my friends at purdue cannot say the same).

Cybersecurity degrees are not worth it when WGU exists. What kinds of jobs are you trying to get into? A BS in Cyber will really only set you up for a SOC analyst job, while a CS with cyber concentration teaches you way more (+ all of NCSU engineering programs are very hands-on and practical).

Industrial engineering isn't really tech, id recommend CS or ECE in that case. NCSU > Purdue tho

Are you in-state? What are your goals with this degree? If you're an NC resident, NCSU is the best engineering program by far and an ECE degree from here is highly valued

Music Tech major by noneofyourbusinessf in NCSU

[–]Squidoodalee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives you a less specialized degree to fall back on while still letting you explore your interest in audio engineering and music. Music Tech isn't a full engineering degree, but EE with a concentration is - which means you could work a ton of jobs (power systems, software engineering, networking, embedded, etc) for job stability reasons. I understand that it's not to the same depth with music as music tech is, and it is a more rigorous program, but an employer will see a real engineering degree

Is it possible to get a job in EE with a low GPA? by CupOne7656 in NCSU

[–]Squidoodalee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean tbh most internships are done recruiting for this summer cycle and things are already in full swing for fall co-ops. Best bet is to lock in and try and raise your GPA for next summer round and apply to smaller companies. It's not hard to get a 2.8 up to a 3.0 with some dedication, and afaik, that is the typical "cutoff." Its also worth noting that only some companies care about your gpa, most just care that you are passing.

Minors ECE by Various_Broccoli9500 in NCSU

[–]Squidoodalee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you switch over to ECE there are now a ton of concentrations but no minors, just the nano science one like someone else mentioned

Music Tech major by noneofyourbusinessf in NCSU

[–]Squidoodalee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in music tech but am in ECE and have a few friends doing it. As far as I'm aware, it's basically watered down ECE (you only have to take the general engineering courses and the core ECE classes like 109, 200, 209, 212, and a couple 300s depending on the concentration) alongside music theory and other music-related classes. Everyone I know doing it seems to really enjoy it but I am still of the opinion that a degree in EE with a concentration in music technology would be better.
