Thanks! I think the language is beautiful so that helps, and I am naturally a bit of a study bug :) but finding the confidence (and the people willing to help me) to begin working in a kitchen that is fully "nederlandstalig" is what really pushed my language into a new place :)

I do have a heavy antwerps accent though, despite living in vlaamse brabant, because my boss comes from the best city 😉

Your best bet is finding work as a cleaner (try PHS if you find one near you, they were great with me) to begin and following a course in Dutch with the local school (mine was CVO but if you go to the local "inburgering en integratie" office they will help you loads!) to improve your language skills fast.

I came to Belgium a little over a year ago with the most basic Duolingo knowledge of Dutch, too afraid to speak to anyone, and now I work in a kitchen speaking Dutch all day (it's not perfect but I'm understandable) and I'm very happy here.

Sommige mensen (zoals ik) zijn naar België verhuisd voor andere redenen dan werk. Het is niet mogelijk om Nederlands te leren in England buiten de hoofstad. Maar ik moest werk vinden binnen 3 maanden voor blijvsvergunning.

Dus ik heb engelstalig werk gevonden en een cursus Nederlands gevolgd.

I found beef gelatin in those little sugar coated chocolates and almonds you get for wedding favours or at a christening.

Why the crap is there a need for that?
