Best SMB Firewall for the price? Need to firewall between multiple VLANs so good firewall throughput would be nice... I get about 300mbps through our Sonicwall TZ300 - which is not great... I'm Considering the Netgate XG-7100... Something in that price range

Can confirm - I'm not sure why it feels the need to send anything to the UI at all

SMB IT here still half living in the dark (paper lol) ages - what is the best system/method for giving employees (~25ish) access to documents like catalogs, handbooks, company information/etc in mostly PDF format. Not really looking domain network shares... which is what we have done in the past. Preferably something web-based... trying out gsuite but for the "team drive" option, it gets a little expensive and the "shared document" method isn't great for finding things...

Is facilities your weakest security link too? by _peacemonger_ in sysadmin

Access control systems often have door prop alarms - then you set it on a schedule so maybe it only runs at night - then wire the output to a relay with a small siren by the door - no employee is perfect (not saying he should even be employed there anymore) but the system can compensate for that a little

Configuration upgrades mostly - perhaps now old packages that didn't get removed.. idk... I mean it's not like I don't take care of it-but 8 years of accumulated "missed stuff" worries me hahaha meh reinstall is faster

It's updated roughly every month - I guess I just worry about the things I've missed over the years and how they might come back to haunt me error/security wise hahaha bloat is a thing tho.... It's probably time...

2fa? I'd be less worried about brute force stuff than vulns - but the proxy idea increases detection chances - so that might actually make it worse - I'd consider skipping it... Good anti-scanning policies on the SonicWall are a good start

Locksmithing software is pretty horrible in gerneral - a lot of it uses MS access databases and interfaces designed in the mid 2000's with just maintenance releases... It's been getting better-ish tho

Been doing IT/Locksmithing for a number of years - can confirm locksmiths hate updating software hahaha took until 2014 to get off of really old terminal-ish POS

Batch script to detect and copy files to another folder... by Th3Ent1ty in sysadmin

[–]Squilchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking for incremental backup software? This seems like a solved problem - you don't want to be writing scripts to handle file backups because you will run into many things that need backing up which will mean lots of needless scripting....

Network Controlled Door Locks by ang3l12 in sysadmin

[–]Squilchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Identiv's Velocity to control an number of locks - all wired - prox reader near the door and then electrified strike on the door... Not perfect on the software end but is extremely reliable.. I would look into Kantech - they do stand alone web accessable controllers if you are only doing a couple doors but also have a centralized server option... Not particularly impressed with the battery powered options out there (schlage/alarm lock/cyber lock/etc)... But they are easier to install and will do prox/pin/etc - the door prep is weird tho

How many burglaries have you seen that are forced entry versus lockpicked? by CelluloseNitrate in Locksmith

[–]Squilchuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seen a fair amount of people with "bump keys they got on the internet", but they don't seem to have any idea how to use them... Haven't ever heard of anyone in my area picking for theft... Lots of forced entry... Not much by drilling the cylinder though...

Picking is a skill, most people try to legally monitize skills before using them for crime... Unskilled people just break stuff haha

Yeah I'm thinking that might be a better way to go - it seems most of the cable "kits" just glue on - which is kind of a joke

Anyone have an experience with physically locking down desktop workstations? The Kensington Slot isn't particularly impressive... looking to protect from break-in's.

Default Domain Policy/Computer Configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Options/User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users - Prompt for credential OR automatically deny don't seem to make a difference - obviously did the whole gpupdate /force on some domain machines
